Jupiter (JUP) tokenomics

Jupiter (JUP) is the native governance token for the Jupiter Exchange, a leading decentralized exchange aggregator on the Solana blockchain. The token is designed to facilitate community involvement in platform decisions, including voting on launchpad projects, grants, and list disputes. The total maximum supply of JUP is capped at 10.00 billion tokens.

Issuance and Allocation Mechanism

The JUP token supply was initially minted and split equally between the project team and the community. This 50/50 split is intended to balance the interests of core contributors with the broader ecosystem participants.

Community Allocation (50%)

The 5.00 billion JUP allocated to the community is distributed through several channels:

• Airdrops: 4.00 billion JUP (40% of total supply) is reserved for four rounds of airdrops. The first round targeted users who interacted with Jupiter before November 2023, with approximately 955,000 wallets eligible.
• Contributors and Grants: 1.00 billion JUP (10% of total supply) is set aside for community contributors and ecosystem grants.

Team Allocation (50%)

The 5.00 billion JUP allocated to the team and strategic needs is broken down as follows:

• Team Members: 2.00 billion JUP (20% of total supply) is designated for the core team.
• Strategic Reserve: 2.00 billion JUP (20% of total supply) is held for strategic purposes. Notably, 500 million JUP from this reserve was allocated to SPL MER tokenholders.
• Liquidity Provision: 1.00 billion JUP (10% of total supply) is dedicated to ensuring market liquidity.

Usage and Incentive Mechanism

The primary utility of the JUP token is governance. Tokenholders are expected to vote on critical ecosystem developments, such as:

• Approving projects for the LFG Launchpad.
• Managing the DAO treasury.
• Resolving disputes regarding the "strict list" of tokens.
• Allocating grants to developers and contributors.

In addition to governance, Jupiter utilizes a Dynamic Liquidity Market Maker (DLMM) pool on Meteora for its initial token launch. This mechanism provided price support for JUP tokenholders during the initial sale period. The LFG Launchpad also serves as an incentive tool, allowing users to claim airdrops and trade newly issued tokens within the ecosystem.

Locking and Unlocking Mechanism

Jupiter employs a structured vesting and locking strategy to manage inflationary pressure and ensure long-term alignment.

• Team Vesting: The 2.00 billion JUP allocated to the team is subject to a two-year vesting period following a one-year cliff.
• Strategic Reserve Lock: This allocation is locked for at least one year. The community must be given a minimum of six months' notice before any liquidity event involving these tokens can occur.
• Launch Pool Lock: During the initial open market sale in early 2024, the USDC-JUP DLMM launch pool acted as a liquidity provision locked for seven days to support initial price discovery.

Unlocking Schedule and Future Impacts

The unlock schedule is designed to be gradual, with significant portions of the supply becoming available through 2027. Data indicates a series of monthly unlocks leading into 2027, with a notable event scheduled for early 2027.

The majority of token allocations are projected to be completed by 2027, with minor residual distributions extending toward 2030. This paced release is intended to minimize market supply shocks and maintain a predictable inflationary environment.
