Issuance Mechanism

The Shiba Inu (SHIB) token, an ERC-20 asset launched in July 2020, was initially distributed with a total supply of approximately 1 quadrillion tokens. The issuance mechanism was characterized by a unique initial distribution:

• Initial Liquidity Lock: 500.00 trillion ERC-20 SHIB (50.00% of the total token supply) was locked into the SHIB-ETH liquidity pool on Uniswap at launch.
• Transfer to Vitalik Buterin: The remaining 50.00% of the total token supply was allocated to the personal wallet of Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin.

Allocation Mechanism

The initial allocation of the SHIB token was split evenly between the Uniswap liquidity pool and Vitalik Buterin's wallet. The subsequent actions taken by Buterin significantly impacted the circulating supply:

• Uniswap Liquidity Pool: 500.00 trillion SHIB (50.00% of total supply) was locked for liquidity provision.
• Buterin's Allocation: Of the 500.00 trillion SHIB sent to Vitalik Buterin:
  • Approximately 410.00 trillion SHIB (about 82.00% of his allocation, or 41.00% of the total supply) was burned.
  • 50.00 trillion SHIB (10.00% of his allocation) was donated to the India COVID relief fund.

The project team itself was reportedly not allocated a share of the total token supply. As of January 24, 2024, approximately 410.40 trillion ERC-20 SHIB has been burned, representing about 41.04% of the total token supply.

Usage and Incentive Mechanism

The SHIB token is the core asset of the Shiba Inu ecosystem, which includes the decentralized exchange (DEX) ShibaSwap and the upcoming Layer-2 network, Shibarium. The token's utility and incentive mechanisms are centered around staking, liquidity provision, and burning:

Staking (Bury)

Users can stake (referred to as "Bury") their ERC-20 SHIB on ShibaSwap to receive xSHIB tokens. Holding xSHIB provides two primary incentives:

• BONE Rewards: Entitles holders to inflationary BONE rewards.
• Swap Fees: Grants a share of 0.10% of swap fees generated on ShibaSwap, paid in ETH.

Liquidity Provision (Dig)

Users can provide SHIB and a paired asset as liquidity (referred to as "Dig") to pools on ShibaSwap. This activity is incentivized by:

• Transaction Fees: Earning transaction fees from swaps on the platform, distributed in both SHIB and the paired asset.
• BONE Rewards: Liquidity providers can stake their received LP tokens (referred to as "Woof") to earn additional inflationary BONE rewards.

Token Burning for Rewards

SHIB can be burned on the ShibaSwap Burn Portal to earn RYOSHI token rewards. The rewards are distributed every two weeks, with the Ryoshi Vision website stating that 1% of all RYOSHI transactions are distributed as rewards.

Future Utility on Shibarium

The project team has stated that an automatic SHIB token burn mechanism is expected to be implemented on the Shibarium Layer-2 network. However, further details on this development were not available as of the latest search.

Locking Mechanism and Unlocking Time

The primary locking mechanism for SHIB is through the staking feature on ShibaSwap, known as "Bury."

• Staking Lock: When users stake SHIB, they receive xSHIB. This process locks the underlying SHIB tokens within the staking contract.
• Unlocking Time: Information regarding specific vesting schedules or fixed unlocking times for the initial token supply (beyond the initial liquidity lock and burn events) was not available.
