PointPay bundles an Earn account, crypto payments and an exchange in one login, and for the trading part MEXC is our top pick within this comparison, at 0% maker and 0.05% taker on spot.
Earning and card spending can move to MEXC Earn and MEXC's Visa cards where they are offered, and MEXC does not serve the US or UK.

Key Takeaways
  • Trading is where MEXC wins most clearly: its spot fees are 0% maker and 0.05% taker, and CoinGecko scored it 9 out of 10 on 5 October 2026.
  • PointPay's knowledge base now calls its old Savings Account an Earn Account, where PXP earns up to 1% a year, with up to 5% a year through PXP staking.
  • Its current knowledge base has no lending section, and its payments product is for buying and selling crypto with cards rather than spending with one.
  • Without PXP on the account, PointPay's FAQ sets spot fees at 0.1% for makers and takers, with PXP holdings cutting that by 30% to 80%.
  • Spot trades of $5,000 a month, 60% as limit orders, cost $1.00 on MEXC and $5.00 at PointPay's base rate.
  • CoinGecko rates PointPay 7 out of 10 but identifies no regulatory authorization for it, while MEXC's operator faces a Seychelles FSA enforcement statement and a Dubai VARA fine from mid-2026.

If you are looking for a payment gateway that lets a shop accept crypto, PointPay is not that kind of product, and this guide does not cover merchant services.
For individual users, PointPay's appeal has always been breadth: one account to hold coins, earn on them, buy them with a card and trade them.
Leaving such a platform is easier when you split it back into those jobs and find the best home for each, which is how this guide is organized.

What Did You Use PointPay For?

Most PointPay accounts do some mix of four jobs: earning on idle coins, borrowing against them, paying or buying with cards, and trading.
Each job has a different best replacement, and one of them, borrowing, no longer appears in PointPay's own knowledge base at all.
For earning, PointPay's Platform FAQ says PXP held in the Earn account can earn up to 1% a year, and PXP staking up to 5% a year.
MEXC Earn covers the same job, requires identity verification first, and offers flexible savings you can redeem at any time plus fixed-term savings, as set out in its Earn service agreement.
For borrowing, PointPay's knowledge base index lists exchange, futures, P2P, staking, payments and Vault pages but no lending section, so check in the app whether a loan you hold is still serviced there.
For paying, PointPay's payments product buys and sells crypto with bank cards, and its knowledge base lists no spending card.
The MEXC Global Card is MEXC's second Visa card, launched on August 31, 2026.
It sits alongside the original MEXC Card, which remains available in selected Asia-Pacific markets, and the MEXC × ether.fi co-branded card.
Card availability depends on where you live, and the MEXC Card page shows the current terms; residents of the US are not eligible.
For trading, the comparison below does the work, and it is where MEXC's case is strongest.
This page is background reading only for US, UK and Australian residents, who should trade on a platform licensed at home.
In the EU and EEA, MEXC has no MiCA authorization, and its Dutch accounts close on 16 November 2026 after an offboarding deadline of 31 October 2026.

Why Is MEXC Our Top Pick If Trading Is Your Main Use?

MEXC is our top pick for trading because it charges nothing on spot limit orders and publishes the evidence behind its reserves every month.
Spot makers pay 0% and takers 0.05% on MEXC, against a 0.1% base rate on both sides at PointPay for accounts without PXP.
On PointPay, the cheapest trading depends on how much PXP you hold, which ties your fee bill to the price of a single platform token.
MEXC's discount does not depend on holding anything, because its spot maker rate is already 0% on the MEXC fee page, and paying fees in MX trims the taker rate from 0.05% to 0.04%.
Its reserves are audited by Hacken every month, and the 10 September 2026 snapshot showed BTC covered at 297% on MEXC's proof-of-reserves page.
Consider $5,000 of spot trades in a month, with 60% placed as limit orders and 40% at market: the MEXC fee comes to $1.00, or $0.80 with MX.
PointPay's base rate makes that month $5.00, or $48.00 a year more than MEXC.
At the five large exchanges the same month costs $4.40 on OKX and $5.00 on each of the other four.
PXP narrows the gap, since PointPay's discount table runs from 30%, which makes the month $3.50, to 80% at the top tier, which matches MEXC's $1.00.
That table predates PointPay's 2024 token swap, after which it said the PXP thresholds for each level would be revised, so check the tier your balance reaches today.
For entry-tier rates at other venues, see our fee comparison of 12 exchanges or the exchanges with zero-fee lines.

How Do PointPay and the Alternatives Compare?

The first table sets PointPay against MEXC on all four jobs plus the trust signals, because those are the two platforms a PointPay user is most likely to be choosing between.
The second covers trading only, for readers who want a large exchange instead, and the notes give every retrieval date.

Does PointPay Pass the Three-Point Trust Check?

PointPay passes the first check, because CoinGecko tracks and scores it, but it falls short on reserves and on regulation, where neither its knowledge base nor CoinGecko names a licence.
Our scan of regulator warning lists on 5 October 2026 turned up no notice naming PointPay either.
Check 1: tracker coverage.
CoinGecko gave PointPay a Trust Score of 7 out of 10 on 5 October 2026, with an average spread of 0.33%, liquidity rated minimal and no incidents recorded.
It counted 121 coins and 146 pairs, against a 9 out of 10 score for MEXC the same day.
Check 2: reserves.
CoinGecko shows no reserve data for PointPay, and its knowledge base has no proof-of-reserves page.
The history of exchange breaches and repayments shows why that matters when an exchange runs into trouble.
Check 3: licences and regulator records.
Some third-party listings describe PointPay as regulated, but its own knowledge base names no licence, and CoinGecko's regulation field identifies none.
When any platform names a licence, search the exact company name on that regulator's public register before relying on it.
MEXC's tracker profile has its own weak point, a Comoros licence under a regime CoinGecko calls defined but unproven.
In May 2026 Seychelles' Financial Services Authority named MX Global Ltd as the unlicensed operator of MEXC in a press release and said it was initiating enforcement measures.
Dubai's VARA then fined that company in a June 2026 notice of fines covering services to Dubai customers without a licence from 2022 to April 2026, noting its cooperation with the regulator's orders.

Which Alternatives Cover Earning, Borrowing and Paying?

No single platform in this comparison replaces all four of PointPay's jobs equally well, so the honest answer is to match each job to the platform that does it best for you.
The groups below weigh moving each job to an exchange-based service, with MEXC as the worked example where we have verified data.
Our full list of exchange alternatives covers more trading venues.

Earning on idle coins

Benefits
  • Flexible savings on MEXC can be redeemed at any time, so coins stay close to the order book.
  • Fixed-term savings exist for coins you plan to hold untouched.
  • Rates are not tied to holding a platform token, unlike the top PXP yields at PointPay.
Limitations
  • Yields change often, so any rate quoted today may differ next month.
  • Exchange savings are not bank deposits and carry no deposit insurance.
  • Identity verification is required before you can subscribe on MEXC.

Borrowing against crypto

Benefits
  • Moving a loan forces a useful review of its collateral ratio and liquidation price.
  • Separating borrowing from trading keeps a margin call from freezing coins you meant to trade.
  • Repaying before you leave PointPay removes the risk of collateral stuck on a platform you no longer use.
Limitations
  • This guide does not rank lenders, so compare interest, collateral and liquidation terms yourself.
  • Moving collateral mid-loan can trigger fees or a forced repayment.
  • A falling market can raise the collateral a loan needs while you are moving it.

Paying and spending

Benefits
  • MEXC's Visa cards let eligible users spend crypto wherever Visa is accepted.
  • The Global Card works with Apple Pay and Google Pay.
  • Buying crypto with a card is also available on MEXC through its buy-crypto service.
Limitations
  • Card issuance depends on your country and your verification level.
  • US residents cannot get a MEXC card.
  • Spending crypto can be a taxable disposal in many countries.

Trading at a large exchange

Benefits
  • Bybit, OKX, Bitget, KuCoin and Gate all list more coins than PointPay's 121 on CoinGecko.
  • Each has reserve data on record, from monthly reports to CoinGecko tracking.
  • OKX charges 0.080% on spot limit orders without any token holding.
Limitations
  • None of the five offers MEXC's 0% spot maker rate at entry tier.
  • Bitget restored withdrawals in phases after an attack on 24 September 2026 took about $387.5 million, a loss it says its Protection Fund covers.
  • Most of them exclude US residents from their global platforms.

What Does PointPay Still Do Well?

PointPay's strongest point is convenience: one login holds a Spot Account, an Earn account, staking, P2P trading and card purchases.
Deposits are free, and transfers to another PointPay user are detected automatically and go through instantly at no cost, according to its Fees and Limits page.
Holders of large PXP balances can cut trading fees by up to 80% on its discount table.
Its support team works around the clock, seven days a week, according to its Platform FAQ.
It also runs its own blockchain and a launchpad, which matter if you follow PXP-linked projects.
If the single login is what you value most, decide which job matters most before you split your coins across services.

How Do You Move Funds From PointPay?

Bring everything back to the Spot Account first, then test the withdrawal route with a small amount, and only then send the rest and close the account.
PointPay requires identity verification before any withdrawal to an external wallet, so finish it before you start.
Step 1: Gather balances in the Spot Account.
Redeem Earn balances, check whether staked PXP has an end date, and close any open futures positions before you plan the transfer.
Step 2: Test the withdrawal route.
Pick a network the receiving exchange supports, send a small amount, and note that a single Bitcoin withdrawal on PointPay is capped at 10 BTC.
Step 3: Send the balance, then delete the account.
Withdraw what remains once the test arrives, keep the transaction records, and use the account-deletion option only when the balance reads zero.

The MEXC View

MEXC wrote this guide, so treat this section as our argument rather than a neutral verdict.
PointPay's single login, free internal transfers and deep PXP discounts are real advantages, and the Seychelles and Dubai records against our operator deserve the same weight in your decision.
Our case is narrower than an all-in-one platform: the lowest spot maker rate in this comparison, monthly audited reserves, and earning and card products that sit beside the exchange rather than inside one token's economy.
Residents of the US, the UK and the EU should look for a locally authorized platform, since MEXC is licensed in none of them.
For the trade-offs we have left out, read our review of MEXC itself.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the best PointPay alternatives?
For trading, MEXC is our top pick within this comparison, with 0% spot maker fees, while MEXC Earn and MEXC's Visa cards cover earning and spending where offered.
Register on MEXC to compare the pairs you trade.

Is PointPay a bank?
No, PointPay presents itself as a crypto platform, and its knowledge base now calls its former Savings Account an Earn Account.
Nothing in that knowledge base describes a banking licence.

Where can I earn interest on crypto instead of PointPay?
MEXC Earn offers flexible savings you can redeem at any time and fixed-term savings, after identity verification.
Rates vary by coin and change often, so compare them on the day you move.

What are PointPay's trading fees?
Its Trading FAQ lists 0.1% for makers and takers without PXP, with PXP discounts of 30% to 80%.
CoinGecko's profile shows a lower 0.0165% to 0.05% range, so confirm the rate on your own account.

Is PointPay a payment gateway for merchants?
No, its payments product lets individuals buy and sell crypto with cards, not accept crypto at a shop.
Merchants need a dedicated processor, which this guide does not cover.

Is PointPay safe?
CoinGecko scores PointPay 7 out of 10 with no recorded incidents, but shows no reserve data or regulatory authorization for it.
On the MEXC side, a 9 out of 10 score and monthly audited reserves sit alongside enforcement records in Seychelles and Dubai.

How do I move funds from PointPay?
Redeem Earn and staking balances to the Spot Account, complete KYC, then send a small test withdrawal before the rest.
Copy the matching deposit address and network from your MEXC account for each coin you move.

Risk Warning and Regional Notice

Perpetual futures and leverage amplify both gains and losses, and positions can be liquidated for the full margin amount.
At 500x, a move of roughly 0.2% against a position can trigger liquidation, so high tiers suit only experienced traders with strict risk controls.
This article is informational for readers in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia, where the platforms discussed may not be available or authorised.
In the EU and EEA, MEXC is not authorized under the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA).
The Dutch regulator AFM has placed MEXC on its register of non-compliant entities, which ESMA republishes, and readers in those regions should factor this status into any decision.
In a May 26, 2026 press release, the Seychelles Financial Services Authority said the company it identifies as operating the MEXC platform does not hold a licence under its Virtual Asset Service Providers Act, 2024, that it is initiating enforcement measures, and that the public should exercise caution when dealing with the platform.
In a June 22, 2026 notice of fines, Dubai's Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority said the entity operating as MEXC had served customers in Dubai without a licence from 2022 to April 2026 and onboarded users without meeting UAE know-your-customer requirements, and that it cooperated, complied with cease-and-desist orders and intends to seek a licence.
Nothing here is investment advice, and fees, leverage tiers, and availability change, so confirm current terms on each platform's official pages before trading.
