MEXC is our top Koinbay alternative within this comparison: spot trades cost 0% maker and 0.05% taker against the 0.3% and 0.6% in Koinbay's documentation, and an anti-phishing code marks every genuine MEXC email.
Koinbay keeps grid bots and P2P, but check its address before logging in, and note that MEXC does not serve the US or UK.
Key Takeaways
Within this comparison MEXC leads the Koinbay alternatives, charging 0% maker and 0.05% taker on spot, with a 9 out of 10 CoinGecko score on 5 October 2026.
A page titled Koinbay Login sat on a look-alike domain on 5 October 2026, and Koinbay's terms say it will never ask users to send crypto or share sensitive information.
Koinbay's documentation lists a general fee of 0.3% for makers and 0.6% for takers, with some tokens and pairs priced differently.
A month of $10,000 in spot trades, 80% at market, costs $4.00 on MEXC and $54.00 at the general rates in Koinbay's documentation.
Regulators have not named Koinbay in anything we found, but MEXC's operator faces a Seychelles FSA enforcement statement and a Dubai VARA fine, both issued in mid-2026.
Grid trading, P2P and flexible savings on BTC, ETH and USDT are genuine Koinbay strengths, so compare the equivalents before you switch.
Koinbay is not KoinBX, KoinX or koin.com, and a search for Koinbay on CoinGecko currently surfaces KoinBX, a separate exchange. The name causes a sharper problem too: pages titled Koinbay Login also appear on look-alike domains, and none of them is Koinbay's own site.
Below, we show how to confirm the real site and leave safely, then weigh six exchanges on fees and safeguards you can check for yourself.
MEXC is our top Koinbay alternative because it cuts spot fees and builds two checks into the account that help you tell a real MEXC message from a fake one.
Spot trades cost 0% maker and 0.05% taker, and the anti-phishing code you set appears in every genuine MEXC email.
Switching exchanges packs several logins, withdrawals and sign-up emails into a few days, and each one is a chance to land on a copied page.
MEXC lets you set an anti-phishing code of up to six characters, which then appears in every official MEXC email, so a message without it should be treated as suspect. Its MEXC Verify tool checks whether a website, email address, Telegram account or phone contact really belongs to MEXC, as its verification guide explains. On fees, the MEXC fee page lists spot trades at 0% maker and 0.05% taker, or 0.04% taker when fees are paid in MX. For a monthly $10,000 of spot buying and selling, 80% of it at market, the MEXC bill comes to $4.00, or $3.20 with MX.
At the general rates in Koinbay's documentation, the same month costs $54.00, which is $600.00 a year more.
OKX comes to $9.60, and Bybit, Bitget, KuCoin and Gate to $10.00 each.
Koinbay's documentation says the rate differs for some tokens and pairs, and its terms say the fee for each order is shown before you confirm, so check the figure your app displays for the pairs you trade.
Koinbay's row is the thinnest in the table, because its public documentation gives one general fee line and no reserve report, and we found no CoinGecko page for it.
We reuse September 2026 numbers for the five large exchanges rather than mixing sources, and each date is given below the table.
Platform | Spot fees (entry tier) | Futures fees (entry tier) | CoinGecko-tracked coins | Proof of reserves | Identity verification | Best for |
Koinbay | 0.3% maker, 0.6% taker as a general rate; some pairs differ | Not listed separately in its documentation | No CoinGecko exchange page found | No report found | Required before using services, per its terms | Grid bots and P2P in one app |
MEXC | 0% maker, 0.05% taker (0.04% taker with MX) | BTCUSDT 0% maker, 0.02% taker; header range 0.000% to 0.040% maker, 0.000% to 0.100% taker | 1,450 | Monthly, audited by Hacken; snapshot of 10 September 2026 | Three tiers: Primary, Advanced, Institutional | Low spot fees and built-in phishing checks |
Bybit | 0.1000% maker, 0.1000% taker | 0.0200% maker, 0.0550% taker | 447 | Monthly proof of reserves | Required | Derivatives depth and options |
OKX | 0.080% maker, 0.100% taker | 0.02% maker, 0.05% taker | 306 | Monthly proof of reserves | Required | Options and multi-region licences |
Bitget | 0.1% maker, 0.1% taker | 0.02% maker, 0.06% taker | 580 | Monthly proof of reserves | Required | Copy trading |
KuCoin | 0.1% maker, 0.1% taker (Class A tokens) | 0.02% maker, 0.06% taker | 889 | Reserve data tracked by CoinGecko | Required | Built-in trading bots |

Dates and sources: Koinbay, documentation fee page and terms (terms last updated September 2026), read 5 October 2026; MEXC, fee page as recorded 10 September 2026, September 2026 Hacken-audited reserve report and CoinGecko data of 5 October 2026; Bybit, OKX, Bitget, KuCoin and Gate, each platform's official fee schedule, help center and terms as recorded for our September 2026 comparisons, with CoinGecko coin counts from 18 to 21 September 2026 (Gate 2 September 2026).
Not always, so check before you type a password: on 5 October 2026, a search for Koinbay's login page returned a page titled Koinbay Login on a look-alike domain that doubles one letter of the brand name, and it is not Koinbay's site.
Koinbay's terms warn that scammers may use its name and state that it will never ask users to send crypto to a wallet or to share sensitive information.
The safe routine is short: type the address yourself or use a bookmark saved earlier, compare the domain letter by letter, and open support only from the site you reached that way.
The name also causes a second, more innocent mix-up.
Koinbay is a different company from KoinBX, KoinX and koin.com, and a CoinGecko search for Koinbay leads to KoinBX, a separate exchange whose listed pairs trade against the Indian rupee. If you came here looking for KoinBX, this comparison does not cover it.
Koinbay names its operating company and the licence it relies on, and our scan found no regulator notice against it, so it clears the third check.
It misses the first two, since we found no CoinGecko page for it and no proof-of-reserves report.
Check 1: is a tracker watching?
CoinGecko scores the exchanges it tracks on liquidity, cybersecurity, regulation, incidents and reserve disclosure, as its Trust Score methodology sets out. Koinbay has no CoinGecko exchange page that we could find on 5 October 2026, and the name search leads to KoinBX instead.
MEXC, by contrast, is tracked with a 9 out of 10 score.
Check 2: can you see the reserves?
Koinbay's documentation has no proof-of-reserves page, and its terms name ChainUp as the company providing virtual asset custody.
Check 3: the operator and the regulators.
Koinbay's terms name KOINBAY LTD as the operator and cite a licence issued by the Anjouan Offshore Finance Authority in the Union of the Comoros.
The same terms bar residents of the United States and restrict service in the EU, the EEA and the UK.
Nothing in the regulator warning lists we searched on 5 October 2026 referred to Koinbay.
Defined but unproven is how CoinGecko grades the Comoros licence regime listed on MEXC's own profile.
Seychelles' regulator goes further, because its May 2026 press release calls MX Global Ltd the operator of MEXC, says that company holds no licence under the 2024 virtual asset law and reports that enforcement measures are under way. A month later, Dubai's VARA published a notice of fines against the same company over services provided to Dubai residents without a licence between 2022 and April 2026, adding that it had cooperated and obeyed the cease-and-desist orders.
All five large exchanges below charge 0.1% or less on spot at entry tier, a sixth of the 0.6% taker rate in Koinbay's documentation, and each has reserve data on record.
Where they trail MEXC is the 0% spot maker rate, which none of them offers at entry tier.
Benefits
It publishes reserve reports on a monthly cycle.
Bybit EU gives European customers a MiCA-licensed route.
Derivatives traders get options as well as perpetuals.
Limitations
A $1,000 market buy costs $1 in fees at its entry tier.
It has no 0% maker rate on spot at entry tier.
Residents of the US cannot sign up, and its Japan service has closed.
Benefits
Limit orders on spot pay 0.080%, a notch under the 0.1% the other four charge.
EU customers are served under MiCA authorization.
Japanese residents use its separate OKJ entity.
Limitations
Market orders on spot still cost 0.100%, double MEXC's taker rate.
Smaller altcoins are thinner on the ground, with 306 coins tracked.
Americans cannot use the global platform.
Benefits
Copy trading is a central feature.
Holding BGB for fees brings spot trades to 0.08% a side.
It also lists stock futures.
Limitations
Its 24 September 2026 security incident, a loss of about $387.5 million that Bitget says its Protection Fund covers, led to a withdrawal pause lifted in phases from 28 September. Spot makers and takers both pay 0.1% before any BGB discount.
Close-only trading for Japanese residents begins 1 November 2026, as it leaves that market.
Benefits
Bybit, OKX and Bitget all list fewer coins than KuCoin's 889.
Its bot marketplace covers grid and DCA strategies.
Paying with KCS takes its spot rate to 0.08%.
Limitations
No spot maker discount exists at its entry tier, where makers and takers both pay 0.1%.
Futures takers pay three times the maker rate.
US residents need to look elsewhere.
Benefits
For breadth it leads the five, with 1,534 coins counted on 2 September 2026.
GT holders pay 0.090% on spot.
For EU residents it offers a MiCA-licensed route, which MEXC does not.
Limitations
Its standard spot rate is 0.100% on both sides.
Free maker orders on spot require VIP 15, far above entry level.
Market orders on its perpetuals cost 0.05%, more than MEXC's 0.02% on BTCUSDT.
Koinbay offers a wide product set in one app, from automated grids to peer-to-peer trading, and most of it is described in plain terms.
Its terms describe grid trading with user-set price ranges, P2P trading between users, futures copy trading and interest on BTC, ETH and USDT without a lock-in.
Card purchases run through Guardarian and Alchemy Pay, and its app listing advertises zero-fee conversions between coins.
Deposits are free, according to its fee documentation.
Its documentation also publishes notices when it changes leverage tiers or delists trading pairs, so users get warning before a market disappears.
Grid traders should compare how each alternative prices bot orders before moving a running strategy.
Do it in three steps: reach Koinbay through an address you typed yourself, test the withdrawal route with a small amount, then empty the account before closing it.
The order matters, because Koinbay's terms say any balance left when you request closure goes toward closure processing fees.
Step 1: Confirm the real site.
Type the address or use a saved bookmark, check that two-factor authentication is on, and ignore any message asking you to send crypto to verify your account.
Step 2: Try the route with a small amount.
Withdrawal fees change with network conditions, so read the fee on the withdrawal screen and send a small amount on a network the receiving exchange supports.
Koinbay's terms allow a non-refundable administrative fee for trying to recover funds sent on the wrong route, with no promise of success.
Step 3: Withdraw everything, then close.
Move the full balance, including flexible savings, before you request closure, and remember that staked KBT or USDT stays locked until its 12-month or 24-month term ends.
These paragraphs are MEXC describing MEXC, so read them as our case rather than a neutral one.
Koinbay's grid tools, P2P desk and free deposits deserve credit, while our own file carries notices from Seychelles' FSA and Dubai's VARA that readers should weigh.
What we can show is protection you can test yourself: an anti-phishing code in every email, a MEXC Verify check for any contact, and a reserve report audited by Hacken each month.
MEXC holds no licence in the US, the UK or the EU, so residents there should pick a locally authorized platform.
Pick MEXC if you trade spot at market often, want 0% on resting limit orders, or simply want phishing checks built into the account.
For depth and regional licences look at OKX and Bybit, for copy trading Bitget, for bots KuCoin, and for sheer coin count Gate.
Staying on Koinbay can still make sense for grid trading or P2P, provided you log in only through an address you typed.
Wherever you go next, set up two-factor authentication and an anti-phishing code before the first deposit.
Australia, the UK and the US are outside this page's recommendations, and readers there should use a platform authorized at home.
The Netherlands is a special case: MEXC is offboarding Dutch users by 31 October 2026 and closing their accounts on 16 November 2026, and across the EU and EEA it holds no MiCA authorization.
What is the best Koinbay alternative?
In this comparison it is MEXC, with 0% maker and 0.05% taker on spot and an anti-phishing code for every official email.
Is Koinbay the same as KoinBX?
No, they are separate exchanges, and KoinX and koin.com are different names again. A CoinGecko search for Koinbay currently returns KoinBX instead.
How do I spot a fake Koinbay login page?
Check the domain letter by letter, because a page titled Koinbay Login exists on a look-alike address that doubles a letter.
Koinbay says it never asks users to send crypto or share sensitive information.
Is Koinbay safe?
Our scan found no regulator notice naming Koinbay, but CoinGecko does not track it and it publishes no reserve report we could find.
MEXC is tracked and scored 9 out of 10, while regulators in Seychelles and Dubai have taken action against its operator.
Does Koinbay require KYC?
Yes, its terms require identity verification before you can use its services, with checks run through Sumsub.
Institutional, Advanced and Primary are MEXC's three verification tiers, from highest to entry level.
Is Koinbay available in the US?
No, its terms list the USA among prohibited jurisdictions and restrict service in the EU, the EEA and the UK.
MEXC does not serve US or UK residents either.
How do I move funds from Koinbay safely?
Log in through a typed address, send a small test withdrawal, then move the full balance before requesting closure.
Start the receiving side in your MEXC account, where each coin shows its own deposit address and networks.
Perpetual futures and leverage amplify both gains and losses, and positions can be liquidated for the full margin amount.
At 500x, a move of roughly 0.2% against a position can trigger liquidation, so high tiers suit only experienced traders with strict risk controls.
This article is informational for readers in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia, where the platforms discussed may not be available or authorised.
In the EU and EEA, MEXC is not authorized under the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA).
The Dutch regulator AFM has placed MEXC on its register of non-compliant entities, which ESMA republishes, and readers in those regions should factor this status into any decision.
In a May 26, 2026 press release, the Seychelles Financial Services Authority said the company it identifies as operating the MEXC platform does not hold a licence under its Virtual Asset Service Providers Act, 2024, that it is initiating enforcement measures, and that the public should exercise caution when dealing with the platform.
In a June 22, 2026 notice of fines, Dubai's Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority said the entity operating as MEXC had served customers in Dubai without a licence from 2022 to April 2026 and onboarded users without meeting UAE know-your-customer requirements, and that it cooperated, complied with cease-and-desist orders and intends to seek a licence.
Nothing here is investment advice, and fees, leverage tiers, and availability change, so confirm current terms on each platform's official pages before trading.
