Key Facts

The artificial intelligence company said it will expand its global reach through the partnerships, which will help allow it to “bring frontier AI to more people, more businesses and more communities worldwide.”

OpenAI said Amazon will invest $50 billion through a multi-year partnership, with Amazon Web Services being the exclusive third-party cloud provider for OpenAI’s new “Frontier” enterprise program designed for companies to build and manage teams of AI agents.

Nvidia has already partnered with OpenAI, and the company said a new $30 billion investment will expand the computing capacity needed to build and deploy AI systems worldwide.

SoftBank Group Corp. Chairman and CEO Masayoshi Son said its $30 billion investment furthers its own artificial superintelligence strategy and will help “accelerate OpenAI’s research and ecosystem expansion.”

OpenAI, which was valued at $500 billion in October before its recent investment round, said 900 million people use ChatGPT weekly, including 50 million consumer subscribers and 9 million paying businesses.

Crucial Quote

“We are entering a new phase where frontier AI moves from research into daily use at global scale,” OpenAI said. “Leadership will be defined by who can scale infrastructure fast enough to meet demand, and turn that capacity into products people rely on.”

Big Number

$3.1 billion: That’s the net worth of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, who took over the company in 2019.

Key Background

OpenAI’s last big funding round came last March, when SoftBank invested $40 billion at a then-$260 billion valuation. It has already received significant backing from Microsoft, which held a 27% stake in OpenAI’s for-profit arm as of October and has integrated the startup’s technology across its products. The latest funding round reflects intensifying competition among major technology companies, with Amazon CEO Andy Jassy telling CNBC OpenAI will “be one of the very big winners, we believe, longterm” within the AI space.

China Blocks Nvidia’s RTX Pro 6000D as Local Chips Rise

The post China Blocks Nvidia’s RTX Pro 6000D as Local Chips Rise appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. China Blocks Nvidia’s RTX Pro 6000D as Local Chips Rise China’s internet regulator has ordered the country’s biggest technology firms, including Alibaba and ByteDance, to stop purchasing Nvidia’s RTX Pro 6000D GPUs. According to the Financial Times, the move shuts down the last major channel for mass supplies of American chips to the Chinese market. Why Beijing Halted Nvidia Purchases Chinese companies had planned to buy tens of thousands of RTX Pro 6000D accelerators and had already begun testing them in servers. But regulators intervened, halting the purchases and signaling stricter controls than earlier measures placed on Nvidia’s H20 chip. Image: Nvidia An audit compared Huawei and Cambricon processors, along with chips developed by Alibaba and Baidu, against Nvidia’s export-approved products. Regulators concluded that Chinese chips had reached performance levels comparable to the restricted U.S. models. This assessment pushed authorities to advise firms to rely more heavily on domestic processors, further tightening Nvidia’s already limited position in China. China’s Drive Toward Tech Independence The decision highlights Beijing’s focus on import substitution — developing self-sufficient chip production to reduce reliance on U.S. supplies. “The signal is now clear: all attention is focused on building a domestic ecosystem,” said a representative of a leading Chinese tech company. Nvidia had unveiled the RTX Pro 6000D in July 2025 during CEO Jensen Huang’s visit to Beijing, in an attempt to keep a foothold in China after Washington restricted exports of its most advanced chips. But momentum is shifting. Industry sources told the Financial Times that Chinese manufacturers plan to triple AI chip production next year to meet growing demand. They believe “domestic supply will now be sufficient without Nvidia.” What It Means for the Future With Huawei, Cambricon, Alibaba, and Baidu stepping up, China is positioning itself for long-term technological independence. Nvidia, meanwhile, faces…
