Young PH candidate to focus on young and old in Penggaram

BATU PAHAT: The young people of Penggaram will be the focus of Pakatan Harapan’s Felicia Poh should she be elected to the state assembly in the Johor election on Saturday.

Poh, 28, said that her first mission would be to shift young people’s mindset from merely seeking employment to venturing into entrepreneurship.

She also expressed her commitment to provide comprehensive exposure to government initiatives, including access to financing and entrepreneurship development programmes, to build young people’s confidence in pursuing business opportunities.

“Strengthening collaboration with industry players is also important for young people, particularly in marketing, through the expansion of training programmes in e-commerce, artificial intelligence and advanced digital skills.

“Youth social activities will also be given priority to encourage young people to contribute to society by fostering volunteerism and producing an active and engaged generation,” she said.

She also intends to build stronger family institutions by focussing on the needs of women, single mothers and caregivers of vulnerable family members, pledging to serve as a “bridge” to ensure these groups do not miss out on government assistance and initiatives.

“Several government initiatives, whether by the federal or state government, have moved online. However, some people are missing out because they lack the necessary digital skills. That is why I am determined to continue going to the ground to help them,” she said.

She also pledged to improve the welfare of senior citizens by expanding programmes focussed on preventing chronic diseases and improving public facilities to make them more accessible for seniors and persons with disabilities.

Poh said she would promote the history, culture and unique identity of Batu Pahat. “I want Batu Pahat, especially the Penggaram constituency, to be better known for its unique food, multicultural harmony and rich cultural heritage,” she said.

Johor voters will cast their ballots on July 11, with early voting on July 7.
