โทเคโนมิกส์ Virtuals Protocol (VIRTUAL)

Virtuals Protocol, formerly known as PathDAO, is a decentralized infrastructure on the Base network designed for the creation, deployment, and monetization of AI agents. The protocol's economic model is centered around the VIRTUAL token, which serves as the primary utility and governance asset within the ecosystem.

Issuance Mechanism

The VIRTUAL token is an ERC-20 token with a maximum supply of 1,000,000,000 (1 billion) tokens. It exists natively on Ethereum and has been bridged to the Base network.

The issuance of new tokens within the ecosystem primarily occurs through the launch of AI agents. When a new agent is created, 1 billion agent-specific tokens are minted. These tokens are placed on a bonding curve where they are paired with VIRTUAL. Once an agent's market capitalization reaches approximately $610,500 (or a bonding curve limit of 42,000 VIRTUAL), the agent "graduates." At this point, a liquidity pool is established on Uniswap, and the agent's tokens become tradable against VIRTUAL.

Allocation Mechanism

The initial distribution of the 1 billion VIRTUAL tokens was structured to support public participation and ecosystem growth. The allocation is broken down as follows:

Notably, the project team did not allocate a direct share of VIRTUAL tokens to themselves. However, VIRTUAL was airdropped to existing PATH tokenholders at a 1:1 ratio during the migration from PathDAO. The PathDAO project had previously allocated 15% of its total supply to the project team.

Usage and Incentive Mechanism

The VIRTUAL token functions as the "routing currency" for the entire protocol, facilitating all core interactions:

• Agent Creation: Creators must pay a fee of 100 VIRTUAL to launch a new AI agent.
• Payments and Inferences: Users pay in VIRTUAL to interact with agents, access public APIs, or purchase agent-specific tokens.
• Trading Fees: A 1% trading fee is applied to transactions. In the "Pre-Graduation" stage, 100% of this fee goes to the Protocol Treasury. "Post-Graduation," the fee is split: 70% to the Agent Creator and 30% to Agent Creator Program (ACP) Incentives.
• Buyback and Burn: Revenue generated from agent usage (inferences) is used to buy back the agent's specific tokens from the open market, which are then burned to create deflationary pressure.
• Governance: Tokenholders receive veVIRTUAL at a 1:1 ratio to their holdings. This non-tradable credit allows them to vote on protocol upgrades, approve new agents, and manage the treasury. Authoring a proposal requires a minimum of 100 million veVIRTUAL.

Locking and Unlocking Mechanism

The protocol employs long-term locking mechanisms to ensure stability and alignment among stakeholders:

• Liquidity Lock: For every graduated AI agent, the liquidity pool (Agent Token / VIRTUAL) is locked for 10 years. While the creator holds the rights to this liquidity, the lock prevents early withdrawal or market manipulation.
• Ecosystem Vesting: The 350 million VIRTUAL allocated to the ecosystem is earmarked for community incentives. This allocation is subject to an emission limit of no more than 10% per year for the first three years.
• Unlock Schedule: Based on historical and projected data, the protocol reached a significant unlock milestone on December 24, 2023, when 65% of the supply (650 million tokens) was categorized as unlocked. The remaining 35% (350 million tokens) associated with the ecosystem incentives is projected to complete its unlock cycle by December 24, 2033.

Future incentive structures may include a staking mechanism where tokenholders can delegate VIRTUAL-paired LP tokens to subDAO validators to earn rewards from the subDAO treasury, though specific parameters for this have not yet been finalized.
