YouTube has partnered with FIFA to become a preferred platform for the 2026 World Cup, expanding how fans can experience the tournament globally through unprecedented streaming access and creator content.

The deal will allow media partners to stream select matches in full, broadcast the first 10 minutes of every game live, a first in World Cup history, and publish extended highlights on YouTube. FIFA will also unlock content from its digital archive, including full-length past matches and iconic moments.

FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafström said the partnership will engage global fans in ways never seen before.

By spotlighting FIFA’s premium content and unlocking new opportunities for media partners and creators, this agreement will engage global fans in ways never seen before. As the world’s attention turns to the action in Canada, Mexico, and the United States, this collaboration with YouTube reinforces our ambition to maximise the tournament’s impact across the ever-evolving media landscape,” he said.

What media partners gain from the 2026 World Cup deal

The innovative deal offers media partners more premium content to showcase on their YouTube channels, including expanded opportunities to monetise their content.

Media partners will be able to share extended highlights, behind-the-scenes footage, Shorts, and video-on-demand content. For the first time in the competition’s history, they can live stream the first 10 minutes of every match on their YouTube channels, enabling fans to experience the energy from the opening whistle.

Additionally, media partners will be able to stream a select number of matches in full on their channels, engaging global audiences and promoting where to watch more of the competition. YouTube did not specify how many full matches would be available or which partners would receive streaming rights.

Even before the tournament begins, creators will play a role in promoting the competition thanks to extraordinary access to FIFA’s digital archive.

Why this matters for football fans across the globe

The partnership transforms how fans will consume World Cup content, particularly younger audiences who increasingly watch sports through digital platforms rather than traditional television.

By making the first 10 minutes of every match available for live streaming on YouTube, FIFA is acknowledging that fans want flexibility in how they watch football. The move could boost viewership by allowing fans to sample matches before committing to watching full broadcasts on traditional channels.

The deal also positions YouTube as a central hub for World Cup content, with live matches, highlights, analysis, creator reactions, and archival footage all living side-by-side with official broadcaster content.

Whilst full live match rights remain with traditional broadcasters, the YouTube partnership significantly expands the tournament’s digital footprint. The 2026 World Cup, co-hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States, will be the first edition with 48 teams instead of 32, making it the largest World Cup in history.

YouTube’s announcement comes as streaming platforms compete aggressively for sports rights. The partnership signals FIFA’s recognition that digital platforms are essential for reaching younger audiences who consume sports differently than previous generations.
