PANews reported on March 12 that U.S. Energy Secretary Frank Wright stated today that he will take full responsibility for the erroneous post on Twitter and will personally review future posts to prevent a recurrence. Yesterday, Wright posted on Twitter that the Navy had escorted an oil tanker through the Strait of Hormuz, before subsequently deleting the post, causing significant volatility in the oil market. When asked about Wright's deletion of the post, White House Press Secretary Robert Levitt later stated that the U.S. did not escort any ships. Earlier today, Wright indicated that the U.S. Navy is currently unable to provide escorts for ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, but it is "very likely" that this arrangement can be implemented by the end of this month.
