NVIDIA has announced a bold $26 billion plan to expand its presence in artificial intelligence. Over the next five years, the tech giant will invest heavily in developing open-source and open-weight AI models. The move aims to make AI tools more accessible to developers and easier to deploy across multiple environments.

NVIDIA’s $26B Investment in Open AI Models

According to a recent Wired article, NVIDIA’s financial filings for 2025 show that the company intends to broaden access to AI technology. By focusing on open-source models, NVIDIA hopes to counter closed AI ecosystems like OpenAI. The company believes that hardware-agnostic models will allow developers to run AI applications more efficiently across different platforms.

Moreover, this investment is part of NVIDIA’s larger strategy to maintain its dominance in GPU markets, which remain critical for AI training. Open-weight models provide developers with flexibility, enabling them to modify and deploy models without being restricted to proprietary frameworks.

Implications for AI Innovation

Experts say NVIDIA’s push could accelerate global AI development. By making models more accessible, smaller companies and independent developers can experiment with complex AI tools. Open-source and open-weight frameworks also encourage collaboration and reduce barriers to entry for AI research.

For businesses, this approach may lower costs and increase flexibility. Developers will no longer be tied to specific hardware or software ecosystems. This could lead to faster AI adoption across industries such as healthcare, finance, and autonomous vehicles.

NVIDIA’s Impact on Blockchain and Crypto

The crypto and blockchain sectors may also benefit from this initiative. NVIDIA GPUs are already essential for high-compute tasks such as AI model inference on distributed networks. Open-source models could enable decentralized AI applications, improving efficiency and expanding use cases.

Furthermore, developers building decentralized finance (DeFi) platforms or AI-driven crypto tools may find NVIDIA’s open AI models particularly valuable. The investment may enhance AI’s role in crypto analytics, automated trading, and network optimization.

A Strategic Move Against Closed Ecosystems

NVIDIA’s $26 billion plan signals a clear shift toward open AI innovation. By empowering developers and promoting hardware-agnostic tools, the company is positioning itself as a key enabler of global AI progress. Open-source initiatives also strengthen NVIDIA’s long-term strategy, reinforcing its leadership in both AI and GPU markets while fostering broader adoption across industries.

The Channel Factories We’ve Been Waiting For

The post The Channel Factories We’ve Been Waiting For appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. Visions of future technology are often prescient about the broad strokes while flubbing the details. The tablets in “2001: A Space Odyssey” do indeed look like iPads, but you never see the astronauts paying for subscriptions or wasting hours on Candy Crush.  Channel factories are one vision that arose early in the history of the Lightning Network to address some challenges that Lightning has faced from the beginning. Despite having grown to become Bitcoin’s most successful layer-2 scaling solution, with instant and low-fee payments, Lightning’s scale is limited by its reliance on payment channels. Although Lightning shifts most transactions off-chain, each payment channel still requires an on-chain transaction to open and (usually) another to close. As adoption grows, pressure on the blockchain grows with it. The need for a more scalable approach to managing channels is clear. Channel factories were supposed to meet this need, but where are they? In 2025, subnetworks are emerging that revive the impetus of channel factories with some new details that vastly increase their potential. They are natively interoperable with Lightning and achieve greater scale by allowing a group of participants to open a shared multisig UTXO and create multiple bilateral channels, which reduces the number of on-chain transactions and improves capital efficiency. Achieving greater scale by reducing complexity, Ark and Spark perform the same function as traditional channel factories with new designs and additional capabilities based on shared UTXOs.  Channel Factories 101 Channel factories have been around since the inception of Lightning. A factory is a multiparty contract where multiple users (not just two, as in a Dryja-Poon channel) cooperatively lock funds in a single multisig UTXO. They can open, close and update channels off-chain without updating the blockchain for each operation. Only when participants leave or the factory dissolves is an on-chain transaction…
