Key Highlights

  • On February 11, BlackRock unveiled its plan to bring its tokenized BUIDL fund to the decentralized exchange, Uniswap, for institutional trading
  • However, only whitelisted and qualified investors will be able to trade this investment product
  • BlackRock will also acquire some UNI tokens

On February 11, the biggest asset management company, BlackRock, announced the integration of its tokenized Treasury fund with UniswapX. This announcement was confirmed by Uniswap Labs and Securitize, which makes this the first time a BlackRock product is tradable on a decentralized exchange.

How BlackRock’s Collaboration with UniswapX will Work

The integration will allow qualified institutional investors to trade shares of the BlackRock USD Institutional Digital Liquidity Fund, known as BUIDL, through UniswapX technology. The access will not be open to the public, as only white-listed participants and qualified purchasers will be allowed to trade.

BUIDL was launched in 2024 as a tokenized money market fund backed by U.S. Treasuries and cash. The fund currently holds approximately $1.8 billion in market value, and each token is priced at $1.0.

The trading works through UniswapX’s request-for-quote framework. After this, approved market makers compete to provide the best execution prices. Securitize, which tokenized the fund and handles compliance, has onboarded  Flowdesk, Tokka Labs, and Wintermute as market makers.

The settlement of this trade takes place through smart contracts, and investors keep self-custody of assets.

“Large asset managers want to walk before they run, and start with qualified purchasers. But the infrastructure we’re announcing will work equally with retail products,” said Securitize CEO Carlos Domingo, whose firm specializes in putting assets onto the blockchain.

BlackRock’s Global Head of Digital Assets, Robert Mitchnick, said, “This collaboration with Uniswap Labs alongside Securitize is a notable step in the convergence of tokenized assets with decentralized finance. The integration of BUIDL into UniswapX marks a major leap forward in the interoperability of tokenized USD yield funds with stablecoins.”

As a part of this partnership, BlackRock unveiled an investment in the Uniswap ecosystem. The firm will purchase an undisclosed amount of UNI, which is the platform’s governance token.

This partnership comes after 18 months of talks between these two companies.

UK crypto holders brace for FCA’s expanded regulatory reach

The post UK crypto holders brace for FCA’s expanded regulatory reach appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. British crypto holders may soon face a very different landscape as the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) moves to expand its regulatory reach in the industry. A new consultation paper outlines how the watchdog intends to apply its rulebook to crypto firms, shaping everything from asset safeguarding to trading platform operation. According to the financial regulator, these proposals would translate into clearer protections for retail investors and stricter oversight of crypto firms. UK FCA plans Until now, UK crypto users mostly encountered the FCA through rules on promotions and anti-money laundering checks. The consultation paper goes much further. It proposes direct oversight of stablecoin issuers, custodians, and crypto-asset trading platforms (CATPs). For investors, that means the wallets, exchanges, and coins they rely on could soon be subject to the same governance and resilience standards as traditional financial institutions. The regulator has also clarified that firms need official authorization before serving customers. This condition should, in theory, reduce the risk of sudden platform failures or unclear accountability. David Geale, the FCA’s executive director of payments and digital finance, said the proposals are designed to strike a balance between innovation and protection. He explained: “We want to develop a sustainable and competitive crypto sector – balancing innovation, market integrity and trust.” Geale noted that while the rules will not eliminate investment risks, they will create consistent standards, helping consumers understand what to expect from registered firms. Why does this matter for crypto holders? The UK regulatory framework shift would provide safer custody of assets, better disclosure of risks, and clearer recourse if something goes wrong. However, the regulator was also frank in its submission, arguing that no rulebook can eliminate the volatility or inherent risks of holding digital assets. Instead, the focus is on ensuring that when consumers choose to invest, they do…
