"Today Show" co-host Savannah Guthrie's mother was recently "abducted" from her home, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told CBS News on Monday.

"I believe she was abducted, yes," Nanos said. "She didn't walk from there. She didn't go willingly."

Guthrie's mother, Nancy, was likely abducted from her home on Jan. 31, Nanos said. She was reported missing the next day when she didn't appear for church, The New York Post reported.

Nanos told CNN's Erin Burnett that Nancy was considered to be of "sound mind" when she disappeared. She also suffers from "mobility issues," which Nanos said limit how far she can walk.

Nanos said that his office is trying to download camera footage from Guthrie's home. He added that his conclusion that Nancy was "abducted" was largely drawn from a "gut feeling" about the crime scene.

"Something they told me about that scene made me believe this is more than a missing person," Nanos told Burnett.

Nanos added that Pima County has dispatched a homicide team to investigate the case.
