PANews reported on January 22 that, according to Ohmynews, the Gwangju District Prosecutors' Office in South Korea recently discovered during a routine inspection of seized assets that a large amount of Bitcoin related to a criminal case had been lost, with the estimated loss amounting to tens of billions of won (the report mentioned internal rumors of about 70 billion won, or about 48 million US dollars).

It is reported that the prosecution stored Bitcoin-related passwords and other information on a mobile storage device, and the loss may have occurred during the inspection process due to accidental access to a so-called "fraudulent website." The Gwangju District Prosecutors' Office's official response to the matter was "unable to confirm." The prosecution has launched an internal investigation into the matter.
