The latest SpongeBob SquarePants big-screen adventure, The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants, is reportedly coming to streaming this week.
Directed by Derek Drymon, The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants opened in theaters on Dec. 19, 2025. The official synopsis for the film reads, “SpongeBob (voice of Tom Kenny) and his Bikini Bottom friends set sail in their biggest, all-new, can’t miss cinematic event ever … The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants.
“Desperate to be a big guy, SpongeBob sets out to prove his bravery to Mr. Krabs by following The Flying Dutchman (voice of Mark Hamill) – a mysterious swashbuckling ghost pirate – on a seafaring comedy-adventure that takes him to the deepest depths of the deep sea, where no Sponge has gone before.”
The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants also stars the voices of Clancy Brown, Rodger Bumpass, Bill Fagerbakke, Carolyn Lawrence, Mr. Lawrence, George Lopez, Isis “Ice Spice” Gaston, Arturo Castro, Sherry Cola and Regina Hall.
The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants will be released on digital streaming via premium video on demand on Tuesday, Jan. 20, according to When to Stream. While When to Stream is typically accurate with its PVOD reports, the streaming tracker noted that Paramount Pictures has not announced or confirmed the digital release of The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants and it is subject to change.
When The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants arrives on PVOD, it will be available on a variety of digital platforms, including Apple TV, Fandango at Home, Prime Video and YouTube Movies & TV for purchase for $24.99. Since digital rentals are typically $5 less than purchase prices, viewers can expect to rent the film for $19.99 for a 48-hour period.

In the review department, the latest SpongeBob SquarePants movie earned an 82% “fresh” critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 65 reviews.
The RT Critics Consensus for the film reads, “A self-contained adventure with spiffy animation and a sweet message embedded in its goofy goober-ness, The Search for SquarePants is one of SpongeBob’s most delightful big-screen outings yet.”
In addition, the film earned a 68% “fresh” score on RT’s Popcornmeter based on 1,000-plus verified user ratings.
