BNB’s Resilience Hints at Potential Shift Over XRP in 2026 Crypto Rankings

  • BNB’s resilience: Up 27% year-to-date despite Q4 weakness, trading 30% above Q3 levels while others fall.

  • Market cap flip: BNB surpasses XRP, with the XRP/BNB ratio dropping 8.5% in the past month.

  • On-chain edge: BSC’s TVL dips only 9% to $6.86 billion, compared to XRP’s 30% decline to $68 million.

Discover why BNB overtakes XRP in 2025 market cap rankings, signaling a shift in high-cap cryptos. Explore on-chain data and future outlook for investors seeking stability amid volatility. Stay informed on crypto trends today.

What Does It Mean That BNB Has Overtaken XRP in Market Capitalization?

BNB overtakes XRP as Binance Coin surpasses Ripple’s market cap, marking a significant realignment in the top cryptocurrency rankings. With BNB now valued over $120 billion, this positions it as the third-largest digital asset, while XRP faces ongoing pressures from regulatory uncertainties and reduced DeFi engagement. This development underscores BNB’s robust ecosystem support through Binance Smart Chain, attracting sustained investor interest even in challenging market conditions.

How Is BNB’s On-Chain Activity Driving This Market Shift?

BNB’s on-chain metrics reveal a resilient network underpinning its market cap gains. Binance Smart Chain’s total value locked (TVL) has experienced a modest 9% decline to approximately $6.86 billion, according to data from DeFiLlama, reflecting steady DeFi protocol usage and developer activity. In comparison, XRP Ledger’s DeFi TVL has plummeted 30% to just $68 million, highlighting diminished liquidity and user participation.

This disparity in on-chain strength points to capital rotation favoring BNB. The XRP/BNB trading pair ratio has declined by 8.5% over the past month, retreating from a July high near 0.003, as reported by TradingView analytics. Experts note that BSC’s interoperability with Ethereum and lower transaction fees continue to draw developers, bolstering BNB’s utility in decentralized applications.

Furthermore, Binance’s ongoing expansions, including enhanced staking rewards and NFT marketplace integrations, contribute to this momentum. Industry analysts from platforms like CoinMarketCap emphasize that such ecosystem developments provide BNB with a competitive edge over XRP, which has struggled post-SEC lawsuit resolutions without equivalent DeFi growth.

As the market heads toward 2026, investors are hunting for opportunities.

Notably, Binance Coin [BNB] looked like it’s quietly building a solid base. Yearly, BNB has been up 27%, making it the only top-five high-cap still holding green while others continue to bleed capital.

That divergence became clearer on a quarterly view. Despite the fourth quarter shaping up as 2025’s weakest, BNB still traded about 30% above its Q3 open.

In short, Binance Coin held firm despite macro pressure across crypto markets.

Against this backdrop, BNB overtaking Ripple [XRP] in market capitalization can’t be a fluke.

For context, after pushing past $120 billion, BNB has officially flipped XRP, moving into the third-largest crypto spot.

Notably, this move is starting to show up in the core technicals.

Looking at the XRP/BNB chart, the ratio fell about 8.5% over the past month, sliding further from its July peak near 0.003. Capital rotation increasingly favored BNB.

The key question: Can this momentum hold into 2026?

BNB’s on-chain strength signals a shift in high-cap rankings

Binance Coin’s strength stood out as the broader altcoin market broke down.

After a strong Q3 push that sent the Altcoin Season Index to 80, momentum has faded. Against this backdrop, BNB keeping its Q4 losses below 80% suggests investors are already positioning for a recovery.

On-chain data is reinforcing this narrative.

From a DeFi angle, Binance Smart Chain [BSC] has seen only a modest 9% dip in TVL, which stood near $6.86 billion at press time.

By contrast, XRP’s DeFi activity was down 30% to just $68 million.

In short, the widening TVL gap pointed to capital sticking with Binance Coin.

Investors appear committed to the chain for the long haul, which helps explain why BNB’s strength versus XRP doesn’t look like a short-term blip, but rather the early stages of a reversal in crypto market rankings.

As a result, 2026 increasingly resembled Binance Coin’s 2025 setup. A deeper slide in the XRP/BNB ratio could follow, keeping BNB positioned for stronger relative returns among high-cap assets.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Factors Are Causing BNB to Overtake XRP in 2025 Market Cap?

BNB’s overtake of XRP stems from its ecosystem resilience, with BSC maintaining strong TVL and transaction volumes despite market downturns. Yearly gains of 27% for BNB contrast with XRP’s struggles in DeFi adoption and regulatory hurdles, as per market data from CoinGecko, positioning BNB for sustained growth into 2026.

Will BNB Continue to Outperform XRP in the Coming Year?

Based on current trends, BNB is likely to maintain its edge over XRP due to robust on-chain activity and Binance’s global expansions. As voice searches for crypto rankings rise, analysts predict BNB’s market position will solidify, offering better utility for payments and DeFi, while XRP focuses on cross-border solutions with slower adoption rates.

Key Takeaways

  • Resilient Performance: BNB’s 27% annual rise and 30% Q3 premium demonstrate stability in volatile markets.
  • On-Chain Superiority: BSC’s TVL resilience at $6.86 billion versus XRP’s sharp drop signals investor preference for BNB’s ecosystem.
  • Future Positioning: Monitor the XRP/BNB ratio for potential deeper declines, advising diversified portfolios with BNB exposure ahead of 2026.

Conclusion

In summary, as BNB overtakes XRP in market capitalization, its on-chain strength and ecosystem advantages highlight a pivotal shift in high-cap cryptocurrency dynamics for 2025. With sustained TVL growth on BSC and favorable technical indicators, BNB appears poised for continued leadership. Investors should evaluate these trends carefully, considering BNB’s role in diversified strategies as the crypto landscape evolves toward greater utility and adoption in the year ahead.

Bitcoin devs cheer block reconstruction stats, ignore security budget concerns

Bitcoin devs cheer block reconstruction stats, ignore security budget concerns

The post Bitcoin devs cheer block reconstruction stats, ignore security budget concerns appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. This morning, Bitcoin Core developers celebrated improved block reconstruction statistics for node operators while conveniently ignoring the reason for these statistics — the downward trend in fees for Bitcoin’s security budget. Reacting with heart emojis and thumbs up to a green chart showing over 80% “successful compact block reconstructions without any requested transactions,” they conveniently omitted red trend lines of the fees that Bitcoin users pay for mining security which powered those green statistics. Block reconstructions occur when a node requests additional information about transactions within a compact block. Although compact blocks allow nodes to quickly relay valid bundles of transactions across the internet, the more frequently that nodes can reconstruct without extra, cumbersome transaction requests from their peers is a positive trend. Because so many nodes switched over in August to relay transactions bidding 0.1 sat/vB across their mempools, nodes now have to request less transaction data to reconstruct blocks containing sub-1 sat/vB transactions. After nodes switched over in August to accept and relay pending transactions bidding less than 1 sat/vB, disparate mempools became harmonized as most nodes had a better view of which transactions would likely join upcoming blocks. As a result, block reconstruction times improved, as nodes needed less information about these sub-1 sat/vB transactions. In July, several miners admitted that user demand for Bitcoin blockspace had persisted at such a low that they were willing to accept transaction fees of just 0.1 satoshi per virtual byte — 90% lower than their prior 1 sat/vB minimum. With so many blocks partially empty, they succumbed to the temptation to accept at least something — even 1 billionth of one bitcoin (BTC) — rather than $0 to fill up some of the excess blockspace.
