Form 6 student dies after collapsing at Melaka school

Acting Melaka Tengah police chief Halim Abas said the cause of death has been classified as a coronary artery anomaly.

PETALING JAYA: A Form 6 student died after collapsing during an orientation session at a school in Melaka yesterday.

In the 2.40pm incident, the 18-year-old boy reportedly collapsed while queuing with his classmates in the corridor outside his classroom, Kosmo reported.

Acting Melaka Tengah police chief Halim Abas said the boy was rushed to Melaka Hospital’s emergency department, where medical personnel tried to resuscitate him for over an hour.

“However, the victim showed no signs of life and was later confirmed dead at 7.11pm. The hospital’s medical officers later lodged a police report because they could not identify the cause of death,” he was quoted as saying today.

According to Halim, the victim’s mother said her son had never received treatment for any illness or complained of ill health before the incident.

“The victim had been attending the school for about three weeks and was the eldest of two siblings. He was described as a quiet person who was active in sports.

“An autopsy found that the victim’s coronary arteries were abnormally small, and the cause of death was classified as a coronary artery anomaly,” he said.
