Former 2-term Kelantan rep from Umno dies

PETALING JAYA: Former two-term Dabong assemblyman Ramzi Ab Rahman died early this morning at the age of 67, following complications from a kidney disease.

Kelantan Umno chief Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub said Ramzi, the former Kuala Krai Umno head, died at 2.40am at his home in Wakaf Bharu, Tumpat.

“He was a leader who served Islam, the community and the country with distinction, particularly through his efforts to advance the interests of rural communities and strengthen Umno’s struggle in Kuala Krai.

“His contributions and sacrifices will remain in our memories,” Jazlan said, according to Bernama.

Ramzi was first elected as Dabong assemblyman in 2004 with a 1,094-vote majority but lost the seat to PAS in 2008 by 552 votes. He regained the seat for Barisan Nasional in 2013, albeit with a slimmer majority of 229 votes. He did not contest in 2018.

Funeral prayers for the former chairman of the South Kelantan Development Authority, or Kesedar, will be held at 11am at Masjid Ar-Rahman Kubang Batang in Tumpat.
