BUSINESS NAME registrations fell 48% to 37,041 in June, according to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
The DTI’s business name registry had tallied 71,578 registrations in a year earlier.
Of the June 2026 total, 32,848 were new registrations, while 4,193 represented renewals.
In the first half, business name registrations rose 4.82% to 659,747.
New registrations accounted for 558,245 filings during the period, while 101,502 were renewals.
Some 550,333 registrations were filed online, while 101,595 were walk-ins, the DTI said.
Women-led enterprises accounted for 60.27% or 397,615 of the total.
The wholesale and retail industry, which includes the repair of motor vehicles, motorcycles, and personal and household goods, reported 369,919 name registrations as of July 7.
This was followed by accommodation and food service activities (89,232 total filings), real estate activities (36,524), manufacturing (34,146), and other service activities (27,330).
Region IV-A or Calabarzon recorded the most registrations during the period at 116,830, followed by Central Luzon (88,006), the National Capital Region (85,021), Ilocos Region (38,777), and the Central Visayas (34,923). — Beatriz Marie D. Cruz
