Trio charged with torching cars belonging to Cikgu Chandra’s wife

Petaling Jaya sessions court judge Noor Ruzilawati Nor allowed each of the accused bail of RM8,000 with one surety.

PETALING JAYA: Three men claimed trial at the sessions court here today to charges of torching three cars belonging to the wife of activist S Chandrasegaran, also known as Cikgu Chandra.

Tow truck driver A Kumaran, security guard S Kisshen and lorry driver P Surendran were charged under Section 435 of the Penal Code with committing mischief by fire by setting M Sri Uma Maheswary’s three vehicles ablaze.

The damage to the cars, incurred at Taman Kinrara, Puchong, on March 10, caused her to suffer RM80,000 in losses.

If convicted, each of the accused faces up to 14 years’ imprisonment and a fine.

Judge Noor Ruzilawati Nor granted each of them bail of RM8,000 with one surety. She also ordered them to surrender their passports pending the disposal of the case and not to interfere with witnesses.

The next case management is set for Aug 7.

Deputy public prosecutor Nurfazlin Mahmad Zulhasnan appeared for the prosecution while S Dinesh represented the three men.
