Heavy rain fails to dampen Johor early voting at police HQ

JOHOR BAHRU, July 7 — A heavy downpour at about 9.40am today did little to disrupt the smooth conduct of early voting for the 16th Johor state election at the State Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) here today.

Police personnel arriving to cast their ballots were seen hurrying into the polling centre to avoid the rain, but voting continued as normal.

Despite the downpour, a steady stream of officers and personnel continued arriving at the polling centre to cast their ballots.

Nearby, members of the media covering the early voting process took shelter under a tent as they waited for the rain to ease.

A total of 12,067 police personnel and their spouses will cast their ballots in person at designated polling centres today, while another 643 are voting by post.

The state election has attracted 172 candidates contesting 56 state seats, with polling for more than 2.7 million ordinary voters scheduled for Saturday.
