THE House prosecution panel is considering hiring translators in the country’s major languages to better explain the hearings in the impeachment trial of Vice-President Sara Duterte-Carpio.
In a statement on Wednesday, House prosecution spokesperson and impeachment adviser Robert Ace S. Barbers said that among languages that could be used to explain the process are Bisaya, Hiligaynon, Bicolano, and other regional languages so that Filipinos who are more comfortable using their own language can more easily understand the course of the impeachment proceedings.
Impeachment is not just a legal issue because it also has procedural, legal, and public information aspect, he said.
“That is why a single person cannot explain it. It requires a team with a unified message and a single narrative,” Mr. Barbers said in the statement in Filipino.
He added that the initiatives aim to help the public understand the process and prevent the spread of misinformation. — Pexcel John Bacon
