'Stark warning': Trump's 'absolutely insane' confession leaves analysts gobsmacked

Political analysts and observers roasted President Donald Trump's latest "absolutely insane" confession on Wednesday.

During a speaking engagement at the White House, Trump said the U.S. government can't manage multiple social programs that millions of Americans rely on. His comments were made at a time when the Trump Pentagon has asked Congress to approve $200 billion to continue fighting the war in Iran, a conflict that Trump unilaterally began in late February.

"It's not possible for us to take care of daycare, Medicaid, Medicare, and all of these individual things," Trump said during Easter lunch at the White House. "They can do it on a state basis. We can't do it on the federal [level]. We take care of one thing: military protection."

Trump's comments sparked fierce backlash online.

"I guess we’re just saying the quiet part out loud. Who has time for healthcare when we’re busy bombing Iran? Ridiculous," advocacy group VoteVets posted on X. '

"Imagine if instead of funding forever wars in the Middle East, the United States delivered universal child care and health care for all Americans," Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) posted on X.

"Loser. A real president—and Congress—could take care of all those, and not launch an illegal war," Elliot Blake, an animation producer, posted on Bluesky.

"This clip is a stark warning," cardiologist Chandan Devireddy posted on Bluesky. "The future of the U.S., currently the most prosperous nation on earth, is precariously balanced between choosing to prioritize the health and growth of our people or the continued expansion of the military-industrial complex. Hopefully, we’re not beyond the tipping point."
