PANews reported on March 27 that, according to Axios, US Vice President Vance is preparing to undertake the most important task of his career: leading US efforts to end the war, a war he has held reservations about from the outset. Vance has spoken multiple times with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and has been involved in indirect communications with the Iranians. He is expected to become the US chief negotiator in potential peace talks. According to US and Israeli sources, Vance is deeply skeptical of Israel's pre-war optimistic assessment of the war's trajectory, now anticipating it will continue for several more weeks. Vance's advisors believe that some within Israel are trying to sideline the vice president, possibly because they perceive him as not tough enough. Israeli officials deny this. White House officials stated that Vance's seniority in the government and his consistent opposition to protracted overseas conflicts make him a more acceptable negotiator for the Iranians than Witkov and Kushner (who led the first two failed rounds of negotiations).
