PANews reported on March 21 that, according to a report in the Hong Kong Wen Wei Po, the Hong Kong Police Cyber Crime Bureau's "Cyber Guardians" disclosed a cryptocurrency fraud case. A 66-year-old retiree was repeatedly scammed by a "cryptocurrency investment expert" since September 2025. After being defrauded of HK$1.4 million in the first instance, the victim paid another HK$600,000 deposit to another "expert" in an attempt to recover his losses. He was then induced to purchase HK$4.6 million worth of cryptocurrency and transfer it to a designated account. The scammers disappeared after receiving the money. Within six months, the victim's total losses reached HK$6.6 million before he finally reported the case to the police. The police remind the public not to easily believe in "guaranteed profit" investments and so-called "loss recovery" services to avoid being scammed in a series of fraudulent schemes.
