European aerospace giant Airbus delivered 793 planes in 2025 and made €7.1 billion in adjusted profit, hitting its annual targets even though engine shortages from supplier Pratt & Whitney slowed down production all year.

The company brought in €73.4 billion in revenue, a 6% increase from 2024, and received orders for 1,000 new aircraft. By year-end, Airbus had 8,754 planes on its order books waiting to be built, a record backlog that shows airlines want planes faster than the company can make them.

CEO Guillaume Faury stated that the company met its delivery commitments despite significant supply chain challenges. The company projects approximately 870 aircraft deliveries and €7.5 billion in profit by 2026, barring unforeseen global events.

The engine problem that is holding everything back

Pratt & Whitney, an American aerospace manufacturer, makes engines that go on Airbus planes, but the company hasn’t been able to supply enough of them. When Airbus doesn’t get engines, it can’t finish building planes. When it can’t finish planes, it can’t deliver them to airlines. That simple bottleneck has been slowing Airbus down for months.

Due to an engine shortage, Airbus has reduced its production targets. The company now plans to manufacture 70 to 75 of its popular A320 aircraft each month by late 2027. For the smaller A220 model, it aims to produce 13 per month by 2028.

This matters because the A320 family, which includes slightly different versions like the A319 and A321, is Airbus’ biggest moneymaker. When A320 production slows, the company makes less money, and airlines have to wait longer for planes they’ve already paid deposits on.

Other parts of the business are doing well

Airbus doesn’t just make passenger jets. Its helicopter division delivered 392 helicopters last year, up from 361 in 2024. Revenue from helicopters grew 13% to €9 billion, mostly because military customers are buying more as defence budgets increase worldwide.

The defence and space division also had a good year. Revenue jumped 11% to €13.4 billion, and new orders hit a record €17.7 billion. This division lost money in 2024 but turned things around in 2025, making a profit of €798 million.

Across all its divisions, the company has a backlog of orders worth €619 billion. This substantial order book provides the company with long-term visibility and stability, even when facing production challenges.

The aerospace giant wants to pay shareholders €3.20 per share in dividends, higher than before. The company also generated €4.6 billion in cash after expenses, showing it’s actually collecting money from customers and not just recording sales on paper.

The 2026 forecast expects trade tariffs to remain unchanged and no new supply chain disruptions, assuming current trade tensions don’t worsen.
