Strategy Will Buy Bitcoin on a Quarterly Basis: Michael Saylor

American business intelligence firm Strategy confirmed plans to buy bitcoin every quarter, signaling a long-term commitment despite market fluctuations. Michael Saylor, the company’s executive chairman, emphasized that selling the holdings is not part of the plan.

To support this strategy, Saylor said the firm has structured its purchases to continue indefinitely, maintaining regular exposure. He also dismissed claims that Strategy might be forced to liquidate if bitcoin prices remain low for an extended period.

Strategy to Hold BTC Through Volatility

The executive explained that fears about leverage and cash shortages are misplaced. Strategy has structured its balance sheet with conservative leverage and strong liquidity to manage volatility.

Saylor noted that the company holds enough cash to cover dividends and debt obligations for around two and a half years, providing a buffer against short-term price swings. This financial stability allows Strategy to focus on long-term bitcoin accumulation.

Bitcoin’s recent price swings have raised questions about corporate treasury strategies that rely heavily on the asset. Saylor argued that such volatility is a normal characteristic of “digital capital,” which behaves differently from traditional stores of value like gold or real estate.

He recommended viewing bitcoin over multi-year horizons rather than focusing on short-term movements. Investors with shorter timelines may experience price swings, but long-term holders can track performance across four-year cycles.

Riding Bitcoin Waves With Confidence

When asked about a prolonged downturn, Saylor said the company could refinance its debt instead of selling bitcoin. He expressed confidence that lenders would continue providing financing because bitcoin retains value despite temporary declines.

He also noted that Strategy’s stock amplifies bitcoin’s price movements, rising faster during rallies and falling more sharply during drops. This volatility, Saylor explained, creates liquidity and supports the development of new financial instruments backed by the company’s bitcoin holdings.

Reflecting this long-term approach, Strategy purchased 1,142 BTC for roughly $90 million between February 2 and 8. The company now holds about 714,644 BTC, while bitcoin trades near $69,300, and Strategy shares are around $135 in pre-market trading.
