Trump admin scorched as it uses 'cutesy cartoon' to 'Make Black Lung Great Again'

President Donald Trump's administration was scorched on Thursday by an analyst who accused it of trying to "Make Black Lung Great Again."

Trump's Interior Secretary, Doug Burgum, introduced the world to a new mascot named "Coalie" on Thursday, who was created to promote Trump's “American Energy Dominance Agenda,” reported Catherine Rampell, economics editor at The Bulwark. Burgum posted an animated photo of the two on his X page, which shows a large lump of coal with a "kawaiian gaze" and wearing an Office of Surface Mining outfit.

Rampell argued that Coalie might "make coal look cute and cuddly," but the mascot is really a symbol of something more concerning.

"Make Black Lung Great Again!" she wrote.

To Rampell, Coalie represents another attempt by the Trump administration to cover up the poor performance of Trump's economy. She noted that Trump's insistence on creating more "manly" jobs in manufacturing and agriculture has failed to materialize largely because of the president's tariff regime.

"It’s proving tough to be a worker in the male-dominated sectors of the Trump economy," Rampell wrote. "Assuming the tariffs aren’t going anywhere, they’re gonna need a lot more cutesy cartoon mascots."
