Optimism Passes Plan to Use Superchain Revenue for OP Token Buybacks

TLDR

  • Optimism ties Superchain revenue directly to OP token buybacks for growth
  • OP token demand now rises with network usage under new buyback model
  • Superchain revenue fuels recurring OP buybacks in major protocol shift
  • Optimism reshapes OP economics by linking revenue to token demand
  • New buyback plan connects Superchain growth directly to OP value

Optimism approved a major shift in its economic model as it adopted a program that directs Superchain revenue toward OP Token Buybacks. The decision introduces a direct link between protocol use and token demand, and it marks a significant evolution in the role of OP. The move sets a clear framework for a structured buyback model that aligns token flows with network growth.

Superchain Revenue Framework Gains Formal Approval

Optimism governance backed the plan with strong support, and the vote confirmed a new structure for OP Token Buybacks. The program commits half of net sequencer revenue to recurring purchases, and the pilot begins in February. The remaining share continues to support ecosystem operations and shared infrastructure.

The Superchain produced about 5,868 ETH in sequencer revenue during the last year, and the figure forms the base for the initial cycle. The program directs roughly 2,700 ETH toward OP purchases at current activity levels, and it uses a controlled monthly process. However, it also includes pauses when revenue drops below set limits or when execution cannot meet agreed terms.

The foundation will use an OTC provider to reduce market impact, and all activity will appear on public dashboards. This structure aims to build trust through full reporting, and it supports consistent flows into OP Token Buybacks. The foundation designed the framework to scale as additional chains join the Superchain.

The plan introduces a direct economic loop between Superchain usage and OP Token Buybacks, and it reshapes how value moves through the ecosystem. Demand for OP now grows alongside higher transaction volume, and the structure supports predictable capital deployment. The model brings a new dynamic to a token that previously held only governance utility.

Repurchased tokens will move to the collective treasury, and governance will decide future use. The plan leaves room for burns, staking rewards, or new incentive paths, and the flexibility ensures long-term adaptability. This approach aims to strengthen OP’s economic role without locking the program into one path.

The mechanism also reduces delays in treasury activity, and it supports faster decision-making as the Superchain expands. Every active chain contributes to the revenue pool, and every increase in activity raises the share directed to OP Token Buybacks. The design supports a clear alignment between network performance and token flows.

Program Sets Stage for Token Model Evolution

The foundation positioned the initiative as a structural step rather than a short-term adjustment, and the program will run for twelve months. Governance will review results before extending or modifying the framework, and the review aims to assess long-term sustainability. The community expects meaningful data on pacing, liquidity, and overall impact.

Optimism continues to expand its OP Stack network, and more chains now rely on shared settlement. This broader footprint strengthens the base that supports OP Token Buybacks, and it enhances future revenue potential. The program therefore links ecosystem growth with token demand through a steady and transparent process.

The new framework signals a clear change in how the network manages economic flows, and it builds a direct connection between Superchain revenue and OP. As activity increases, OP Token Buybacks gain a larger base, and the model supports a more defined economic identity for the token.

Franklin Templeton CEO Dismisses 50bps Rate Cut Ahead FOMC

The post Franklin Templeton CEO Dismisses 50bps Rate Cut Ahead FOMC appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. Franklin Templeton CEO Jenny Johnson has weighed in on whether the Federal Reserve should make a 25 basis points (bps) Fed rate cut or 50 bps cut. This comes ahead of the Fed decision today at today’s FOMC meeting, with the market pricing in a 25 bps cut. Bitcoin and the broader crypto market are currently trading flat ahead of the rate cut decision. Franklin Templeton CEO Weighs In On Potential FOMC Decision In a CNBC interview, Jenny Johnson said that she expects the Fed to make a 25 bps cut today instead of a 50 bps cut. She acknowledged the jobs data, which suggested that the labor market is weakening. However, she noted that this data is backward-looking, indicating that it doesn’t show the current state of the economy. She alluded to the wage growth, which she remarked is an indication of a robust labor market. She added that retail sales are up and that consumers are still spending, despite inflation being sticky at 3%, which makes a case for why the FOMC should opt against a 50-basis-point Fed rate cut. In line with this, the Franklin Templeton CEO said that she would go with a 25 bps rate cut if she were Jerome Powell. She remarked that the Fed still has the October and December FOMC meetings to make further cuts if the incoming data warrants it. Johnson also asserted that the data show a robust economy. However, she noted that there can’t be an argument for no Fed rate cut since Powell already signaled at Jackson Hole that they were likely to lower interest rates at this meeting due to concerns over a weakening labor market. Notably, her comment comes as experts argue for both sides on why the Fed should make a 25 bps cut or…
