Japanese electronics group Sony has partnered with insurtech company bolttech to launch My Sony Care+, an embedded protection programme offering extended coverage for selected devices.
The programme is supported by Tokio Marine and builds on Sony’s existing My Sony Care extended warranty service.
My Sony Care+ adds complimentary accidental and liquid damage (ADLD) cover to standard warranty protection.
From mid-December, the programme is available in Hong Kong for Sony cameras and lenses.
Coverage will expand in 2026 to include additional products such as Xperia smartphones, televisions, portable music players and over-ear headphones.
Customers can purchase the plan within 30 days of buying a new Sony product.

The programme provides an extended warranty of up to one or two additional years beyond the original manufacturer warranty.
The programme allows customers to access unlimited repairs for mechanical and electrical faults, capped at the product’s recommended retail price, or receive a one-time replacement if the device is deemed beyond economic repair.
Sony authorised repair centres carry out repairs for eligible devices, while on-site technicians service televisions and home theatre products.
The programme also includes complimentary accidental and liquid damage insurance for eligible customers.
This cover applies to repairs up to the product’s recommended retail price or a one-time replacement where repair is not economically viable.
The insurance is classified as C2 – General Business. The programme sets service limits at two repairs under a one-year plan and three repairs under a two-year plan.
