$1,000 invested in Nvidia stock at the start of 2025 returned

Nvidia is wrapping up 2025 on a strong note, with its stock extending a powerful year-long rally despite some volatility in recent sessions. Shares of the AI chipmaker closed at $188.61 on December 24, marking a 40.45% gain year to date.

At the start of 2025, Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) was trading at roughly $134 per share. An investor who allocated $1,000 to Nvidia stock on January 2, 2025 would have been able to purchase approximately 7.46 shares. At today’s price, that investment would now be worth about $1,406, representing a gain of roughly $406 over the year.

The strong performance underpins Nvidia’s continued dominance in artificial intelligence infrastructure, where demand for GPUs remains elevated across data centres, cloud providers, and enterprise AI deployments. Heading into 2026, sentiment on Wall Street remains overwhelmingly bullish, with around 97% of analysts issuing a Buy rating on the stock over the past two months.

Nvidia secures $20 billion Groq deal

Adding to its long-term growth narrative, Nvidia recently announced the largest acquisition in its history, agreeing to acquire Groq, a designer of high-performance AI accelerator chips, in a deal valued at $20 billion in cash.

Groq was founded by engineers behind Google’s Tensor Processing Unit (TPU) and is viewed as a direct competitor in AI workloads. The company was last valued at $6.9 billion in a September funding round, underscoring the scale of Nvidia’s strategic bet.

Investors are also watching developments around global chip supply and international markets, particularly as Nvidia continues to expand production capacity and navigate evolving export policies.

While Nvidia’s valuation has compressed at times during the year, the stock’s 2025 performance highlights how sustained earnings growth and AI-driven demand have continued to reward long-term shareholders.
