Co-created by Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace, Landman is Paramount+’s sophomore drama based on Texas Monthly’s podcast Boomtown, hosted by Wallace, which chronicled the 21st-century oil boom in the Permian Basin.
Landman is set in modern-day West Texas and follows Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton), a crisis manager for a major fictional Texas oil company whose job pulls him into the cutthroat world of oil and gas. The cast also includes Demi Moore, Andy Garcia, Sam Elliott, Ali Larter, Jacob Lofland, Michelle Randolph and more.
The first season finale sees Tommy kidnapped and tortured by cartel leader Jimenez, who has been threatening M-Tex’s drilling sites. Just as he’s about to be killed, the cartel’s real boss turns on his own men and saves Tommy’s life. Gallino then forces Tommy to accept a new deal in which the oil business and the cartel will form an alliance.
“Tommy’s dealing with someone now who is really smart,” Thornton told Variety following the finale. “The other guys were hired to work for him, but now Tommy’s talking to the man himself. There are advantages and disadvantages to that. Since he is so smart, who knows what Tommy is going to get tricked into?”
The second season teases more trouble for Tommy, who’s now the new president of M-Tex Oil after Miller’s death from a heart attack.
“In season two, as oil rises from the earth, so do secrets – and Tommy Norris’s breaking point may be closer than he realizes,” the synopsis reads. “Facing mounting pressure from M-Tex Oil, Cami Miller, and the shadow of his kin, survival in West Texas isn’t noble – it’s brutal. And sooner or later something’s got to break.”

Only the first episode, “Death and a Sunset,” will debut on Nov. 16, with new episodes releasing weekly on Paramount+.
