Tesla’s Cybertruck Chief Exits Amid Mounting Production Uncertainty

TLDRs;

  • Siddhant Awasthi, head of Tesla’s Cybertruck program, exits after eight years with the company.
  • Departure leaves no immediate successor for both the Cybertruck and Model 3 programs.
  • Analysts predict a sharp drop in Tesla’s Q4 deliveries following the end of U.S. EV tax incentives.
  • Cybertruck sales have faced sluggish demand and growing inventory discounts despite a record Q3.

Tesla’s Cybertruck program has hit another bump in the road as Siddhant Awasthi, the executive overseeing the futuristic electric pickup’s development, has departed after more than eight years with the automaker.

His exit comes at a critical juncture, as Tesla pushes to stabilize production of its most polarizing vehicle yet amid wavering demand and an uncertain delivery outlook.

Awasthi, who began his career at Tesla as an intern, rose through the ranks to lead the Cybertruck program from its engineering phase through to mass production. According to his LinkedIn profile, he also took charge of the Model 3 program in July 2024, signaling Tesla’s trust in his operational expertise. His sudden departure leaves both programs without a publicly named successor, a leadership gap that could complicate Tesla’s near-term manufacturing strategy.

Unclear succession raises execution risks

The absence of a named replacement for Awasthi introduces execution risk for Tesla’s most strategically important projects. Both the Cybertruck and Model 3 are entering high-stakes phases, one scaling up, the other managing cost pressures and market saturation.

Analysts warn that management continuity is crucial as Tesla works to ramp up the Cybertruck’s production and streamline its supply chain. A recall filing submitted to U.S. regulators earlier this year revealed that 46,096 Cybertrucks were built between the vehicle’s November 2023 launch and early 2024, highlighting that production is still in the early stages of scaling.

Without steady leadership, Tesla faces the dual challenge of keeping manufacturing targets on track while navigating softening consumer interest. The company recently began offering hefty discounts on unsold Cybertruck units, suggesting uneven demand despite its initial buzz and celebrity appeal.

Tax credit expiration clouds near-term demand

Tesla’s record third-quarter 2024 deliveries were largely fueled by American consumers rushing to take advantage of a $7,500 federal EV tax credit before its expiration at the end of September.

However, analysts forecast that this surge could be followed by a sharp drop in fourth-quarter volumes as the incentive disappeared.

The loss of the tax credit not only impacts Tesla’s short-term sales but also intensifies the company’s dependence on flagship models like the Cybertruck and Model 3 to maintain momentum. Awasthi’s departure, therefore, couldn’t come at a more sensitive time, particularly as competitors such as Rivian, Ford, and GM introduce new electric pickups with aggressive pricing and expanding infrastructure support.

What’s next for Tesla’s truck strategy?

For CEO Elon Musk, the timing is delicate. Tesla is juggling multiple priorities, from maintaining investor confidence to advancing its autonomous vehicle ambitions and managing its sprawling global gigafactories. The Cybertruck, marketed as both a technological marvel and a cultural statement, remains central to Tesla’s identity in the EV landscape.

Yet, without a clear successor at the helm of its truck division, questions linger about Tesla’s operational stability and execution roadmap. Whether the company can sustain production momentum may depend on how swiftly it fills the leadership void.

For now, Awasthi’s departure adds another layer of uncertainty to Tesla’s already complex production story, underscoring the delicate balance between innovation and execution that continues to define Musk’s empire.

The post Fed Decides On Interest Rates Today—Here’s What To Watch For appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. Topline The Federal Reserve on Wednesday will conclude a two-day policymaking meeting and release a decision on whether to lower interest rates—following months of pressure and criticism from President Donald Trump—and potentially signal whether additional cuts are on the way. President Donald Trump has urged the central bank to “CUT INTEREST RATES, NOW, AND BIGGER” than they might plan to. Getty Images Key Facts The central bank is poised to cut interest rates by at least a quarter-point, down from the 4.25% to 4.5% range where they have been held since December to between 4% and 4.25%, as Wall Street has placed 100% odds of a rate cut, according to CME’s FedWatch, with higher odds (94%) on a quarter-point cut than a half-point (6%) reduction. Fed governors Christopher Waller and Michelle Bowman, both Trump appointees, voted in July for a quarter-point reduction to rates, and they may dissent again in favor of a large cut alongside Stephen Miran, Trump’s Council of Economic Advisers’ chair, who was sworn in at the meeting’s start on Tuesday. It’s unclear whether other policymakers, including Kansas City Fed President Jeffrey Schmid and St. Louis Fed President Alberto Musalem, will favor larger cuts or opt for no reduction. Fed Chair Jerome Powell said in his Jackson Hole, Wyoming, address last month the central bank would likely consider a looser monetary policy, noting the “shifting balance of risks” on the U.S. economy “may warrant adjusting our policy stance.” David Mericle, an economist for Goldman Sachs, wrote in a note the “key question” for the Fed’s meeting is whether policymakers signal “this is likely the first in a series of consecutive cuts” as the central bank is anticipated to “acknowledge the softening in the labor market,” though they may not “nod to an October cut.” Mericle said he…
