  • PayPal and OpenAI set instant checkout in ChatGPT for next year
  • Merchants can list catalogs and accept PayPal directly inside chats
  • PYPL trades sharply higher in pre-market session as agentic commerce plan gained attention

PayPal and OpenAI announced a partnership to embed PayPal’s wallet and checkout inside ChatGPT. The integration aims to convert product discovery into in-chat purchases with PayPal as the payments rail.

For PayPal, this plants its brand in agentic commerce. For OpenAI, it turns search-style chats into transactional sessions.

How ChatGPT checkout will work

Users who find products in ChatGPT will see PayPal checkout in the thread. They can pay from linked bank accounts, cards, or PayPal balances.

On the seller’s side, merchants can list their inventory to ChatGPT users and accept PayPal without signing a separate OpenAI contract. PayPal is adopting the Agentic Commerce Protocol and will also support OpenAI Instant Checkout.

According to PayPal CEO Alex Chriss, his company’s payment platform’s integration with OpenAI is a new shopping experience. According to him, the setup will enable users to find products with a personal-assistant style AI while maintaining trust in their usual payment methods. They can pull funds from bank accounts linked to their PayPal accounts, their personal cards, or stored balances.

Although ChatGPT has tested integrations with Spotify, Etsy, and Walmart merchants, it is adopting PayPal as the financial backbone of its ecosystem. While PayPal boasts millions of account holders on its platform, ChatGPT has over 700 million weekly users. A population that is larger than most traditional retail channels.

PYPL price reaction and context

It is worth noting that PayPal’s PYPL stock surged on the US premarket shortly after OpenAI announced the collaboration with PayPal. The market instrument’s value increased by over 14% to reach $80.45 ahead of the New York open.

Market data shows that the spike is equivalent to adding approximately $13 billion to PYPL’s market value.

Why this could matter beyond a headline

If users can shop, choose, and pay in one chat, discovery turns into orders without the usual tab-hopping drop-off. That favors trusted rails.

It also gives PayPal a seat in AI-native retail, where prompts replace search pages and agent workflows trigger checkout events. The upside depends on merchant adoption and whether in-chat shopping expands beyond early brand pilots.

Cryptos Signal Divergence Ahead of Fed Rate Decision

Cryptos Signal Divergence Ahead of Fed Rate Decision

The post Cryptos Signal Divergence Ahead of Fed Rate Decision appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. Crypto assets send conflicting signals ahead of the Federal Reserve’s September rate decision. On-chain data reveals a clear decrease in Bitcoin and Ethereum flowing into centralized exchanges, but a sharp increase in altcoin inflows. The findings come from a Tuesday report by CryptoQuant, an on-chain data platform. The firm’s data shows a stark divergence in coin volume, which has been observed in movements onto centralized exchanges over the past few weeks. Bitcoin and Ethereum Inflows Drop to Multi-Month Lows Sponsored Sponsored Bitcoin has seen a dramatic drop in exchange inflows, with the 7-day moving average plummeting to 25,000 BTC, its lowest level in over a year. The average deposit per transaction has fallen to 0.57 BTC as of September. This suggests that smaller retail investors, rather than large-scale whales, are responsible for the recent cash-outs. Ethereum is showing a similar trend, with its daily exchange inflows decreasing to a two-month low. CryptoQuant reported that the 7-day moving average for ETH deposits on exchanges is around 783,000 ETH, the lowest in two months. Other Altcoins See Renewed Selling Pressure In contrast, other altcoin deposit activity on exchanges has surged. The number of altcoin deposit transactions on centralized exchanges was quite steady in May and June of this year, maintaining a 7-day moving average of about 20,000 to 30,000. Recently, however, that figure has jumped to 55,000 transactions. Altcoins: Exchange Inflow Transaction Count. Source: CryptoQuant CryptoQuant projects that altcoins, given their increased inflow activity, could face relatively higher selling pressure compared to BTC and ETH. Meanwhile, the balance of stablecoins on exchanges—a key indicator of potential buying pressure—has increased significantly. The report notes that the exchange USDT balance, around $273 million in April, grew to $379 million by August 31, marking a new yearly high. CryptoQuant interprets this surge as a reflection of…
