Taylor Swift has been racking up No. 1 albums for well over a decade — almost two at this point. Her track record on the Billboard 200 is one of the most impressive of all time, and she adds to it regularly, much more frequently than most stars.

Some years, she’s managed to collect multiple chart-toppers, while in other cases, she’s made fans wait several years in between projects. More recently, her output has increased, with each new era seemingly arriving faster than the last.

Ahead of her latest full-length The Life of a Showgirl debuting at No. 1 — which it will do with one of the largest starting sums ever — here’s a look at all of Swift’s champions on the Billboard 200, the most competitive album ranking in America.

How Many No. 1 Albums Does Taylor Swift Have?

As of the publishing of this article, Swift has charted 14 No. 1 albums throughout her career. That’s one of the largest collections among all artists in history, and the most impressive among women.

Here is a ranking of all of Swift’s No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200 by how long they’ve spent ruling the chart:

  • The Tortured Poets Department — 17 weeks
  • 1989 — 11 weeks
  • Fearless — 11 weeks
  • Folklore — 8 weeks
  • Red — 7 weeks
  • 1989 (Taylor’s Version) — 6 weeks
  • Midnights — 6 weeks
  • Speak Now — 6 weeks
  • Evermore — 4 weeks
  • Reputation — 4 weeks
  • Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) — 2 weeks
  • Fearless (Taylor’s Version) — 2 weeks
  • Red (Taylor’s Version) — 1 week
  • Lover — 1 week

The Taylor Swift Album That Almost Hit No. 1

Just one of Swift’s albums that has reached the Billboard 200 has stalled just one rung shy of ruling. Lover: Live from Paris debuted on the chart in March 2023 and, in January 2025, hit a new high of No. 2.

How Many Taylor Swift Albums Have Reached the Top 10?

Swift has sent 20 projects to the Billboard 200 throughout her career. 18 of them have hit the top 10. In addition to her 14 No. 1s, she’s also cracked the top 10 — but not led the charge — with Lover: Live from Paris, Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions (Soundtrack), her self-titled debut full-length, and Beautiful Eyes, an EP. Those sets peaked at Nos. 2, 3, 5, and 9, respectively.

Taylor Swift wows crowds and critics with four sold-out New York shows. Taylor Swift wrapped a run of sold-out New York-area shows tonight with her fourth show of the week at Newark’s Prudential Center. Over the course of the week’s shows she played to over 52,000 fans, and earned rave reviews, impressing some of the nation’s toughest critics. Only two Swift releases have failed to crack the uppermost tier on the Billboard 200. Speak Now: World Tour Live (CD and DVD) missed the mark by just one space, as it reached No. 11 in 2011. The Taylor Swift Holiday Collection is her lowest-peaking album ever, as it only climbed to No. 20.

Fearless Started Taylor Swift’s Record-Breaking No. 1 Run

Swift reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 for the first time with her second full-length, Fearless, which debuted atop the tally in November 2008. Since then, none of her proper full-length studio albums — including her Taylor’s Versions — have missed the mark.

Every Year Taylor Swift Landed Multiple Billboard 200 No. 1s

There have been three years when Swift collected more than one No. 1 on the Billboard 200, which is relatively uncommon these days, even among superstars. In 2020, in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, Folklore debuted at No. 1 in August, while its follow-up, Evermore, conquered just before the end of that year.

In 2021, both Fearless (Taylor’s Version) and Red (Taylor’s Version) — the first two re-recorded full-lengths — spent time at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Fearless (Taylor’s Version) was the first to do so, as it led in April, while Red (Taylor’s Version) came in the fall, as is thematically appropriate, and commanded for one frame in late November.

In 2023, Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) led the charge starting in July, and then in November, 1989 (Taylor’s Version) did the same.

Understanding How the Billboard 200 Chart Works

The Billboard 200 is the chart company’s weekly ranking of the most consumed albums in the United States. It measures overall popularity using a formula that blends pure sales of albums — either digitally or in physical formats such as CD, cassette, or vinyl — with streaming activity, as on-demand plays from platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, and others are converted into album-equivalent units. Track downloads are also factored in when individual songs are purchased separately from an album.

Each tracking period covers seven days, and most albums are released on Fridays, the beginning of the new tracking frame all around the world. The results are published at the end of every chart week.
