The U.S. Air Force has picked Salesforce’s (CRM) Missionforce national security unit to modernize its $13.5B vehicle fleet, the company announced Wednesday.

VSCOS is responsible for keeping the Air Force’s global vehicle fleet mission-ready. The squadron deployed a suite of IL5-approved applications built on Salesforce Government Cloud Plus Defense as part of the move.

The goal is straightforward: cut downtime, streamline logistics, and make sure vehicles are ready when needed.

Kendall Collins, CEO of Missionforce and Government Cloud at Salesforce, called it a strong example of what a focused team can do with the platform.

Collins added the deployment has delivered “improved visibility for commanders, reduced service downtime, and helping ensure vehicles are ready to roll when the call comes.”

Before the switch, logistics operations were fragmented across systems. The migration to Salesforce has now established a unified data foundation across the squadron.

What the Missionforce Platform Does

Missionforce National Security is Salesforce’s purpose-built offering for defense and national security customers. It runs on Salesforce Government Cloud Plus Defense, which meets the IL5 security requirements needed for sensitive government data.

The suite of applications is designed specifically for mission-critical operations, not adapted from commercial tools.

The Air Force’s 441st VSCOS manages everything from routine vehicle maintenance scheduling to ensuring global readiness across all locations. That kind of scale — 84,000 vehicles, 389 sites — requires a system that can handle a lot of moving parts without dropping the ball.

AI Integrations on the Horizon

One of the quieter but important aspects of this deal: the unified data foundation created by the migration is being positioned as groundwork for future AI integrations.

Salesforce did not give specifics on what those AI tools might look like or when they could be deployed. But the consolidation onto a single platform is a prerequisite for that kind of next step.

The 441st VSCOS now has all its vehicle data in one place, which makes AI-driven maintenance forecasting or logistics optimization feasible going forward.

Salesforce stock was trading modestly lower in premarket Wednesday as the announcement hit.
