Firuz Ibrahim said his daughter’s condition had stabilised after undergoing surgery after she was stabbed repeatedly at a secondary school in Banting yesterday.
PETALING JAYA: The 15-year-old student stabbed at a secondary school in Banting yesterday is expected to be discharged from the hospital in about a week, depending on her recovery, says her father.
The Form 3 student reportedly sustained at least 14 stab wounds, one of which pierced her lung. The suspect, a fellow student, was arrested after the incident.
Firuz Ibrahim, 43, said his daughter’s condition had stabilised after she underwent surgery that lasted about three hours yesterday, Berita Harian reported.
“She still has a tube in her lung. The doctors will assess her condition in another two or three days. If the bleeding stops and her condition is good, the tube will be removed,” he said when met at Banting Hospital today.
“The doctors expect my daughter to remain in hospital for at least a week before she is allowed to return home, depending on how well her wounds heal,” he said.
Firuz said that although his daughter is now able to speak, drink and eat light meals, she is not ready to talk about the incident yet.
He added that the stab wounds to her back meant she had to be moved carefully during treatment, including while doctors cleaned and stitched them.
Firuz said it was heartbreaking for him to see his daughter suffering.
“She is still traumatised and cries frequently. I want her to rest first. I do not want to ask too many questions at the moment because my priority is for her to focus on her recovery,” he said.
“This has been extremely painful for us. We have never hit her. Even a small injury makes us feel sorry for her, let alone wounds caused by a stabbing like this.
“But what has happened has happened, and we have to accept it as fate,” he said.
Firuz also said he was willing to meet the suspect’s family to discuss the incident, but there had been no attempts by the suspect’s family to contact him.
Asked whether he was ready to forgive the suspect, Firuz said his family needed time.
“That is difficult to say. We need to see how things develop. For now, not yet,” he said.
The suspect, who is also a 15-year-old female student from the same school, has been remanded for four days from today.
Magistrate Maslinda Selamat issued the remand order at the Telok Datuk magistrates’ court to facilitate the police investigation under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
