MIRI, July 6 — An elderly woman died and two men injured in an accident involving two vehicles at Jalan Morsjaya here.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said a report on the incident was received at 6.52am.
A team from the Miri Central fire station was dispatched to the location about 6km away.
Upon arrival at the scene, the operation commander reported that the accident involved a multipurpose vehicle (MPV) and a saloon car.
Bomba reported that the injured MPV driver managed to exit the vehicle on his own.
“The passenger, an elderly woman, 78, remained trapped inside the vehicle.
“The team immediately used special equipment to extricate the woman from the vehicle. She was later declared dead by medical personnel at the scene,” Bomba said in a statement.
It added that the driver of the other vehicle also managed to exit his vehicle on his own but also sustained injuries.
Both injured drivers were transported to hospital for further treatment.
Police were called to the scene to investigate the cause of the incident. — The Borneo Post
