KUALA LUMPUR, July 5 — The pedestrian walkway to connect LRT3 station Stadium Shah Alam to Aeon Mall along Persiaran Sukan is expected to be fully completed tomorrow, a Selangor government official said today.

The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) is also expected to continue working on this pedestrian pathway along another road, Selangor Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship executive councillor Mohd Najwan Halimi added.

“For your information, the construction of the pedestrian walkway that connects the LRT station Stadium Shah Alam to Aeon Mall along Persiaran Sukan, Section 13 is now being carried out and is expected to be fully completed tomorrow.

“I was informed that this Tuesday, the Shah Alam City Council will continue construction works on this pedestrian walkway along Persiaran Akuatik,” he posted on Facebook.

He also showed photographs of ongoing work on the soon-to-be completed pedestrian pathway to Aeon Mall.

The announcement follows a recent video on social media that highlighted the difficulty pedestrians had walking to the Stadium Shah Alam LRT station through the Aeon Mall–Management and Science University (MSU) corridor after the LRT3 Line rolled out on June 29.

This prompted Selangor Local Government and Tourism executive councillor Ng Suee Lim and Najwan’s July 1 site visit and inspection of the pedestrian walkways at the Stadium Shah Alam LRT3 station.

Ng said the Selangor state government has instructed rail operator Prasarana Malaysia Berhad and developers to urgently complete the missing pedestrian infrastructure including walkways around LRT3 stations, including for works at Dato’ Menteri LRT station to be completed within two months.

Ng had also said MBSA would closely monitor the progress and inspect all LRT3 stations under its jurisdiction to identify and rectify any shortcomings.

Hours after Ng’s remarks, MBSA said it had required pedestrian walkways to be built as part of its development approval for the LRT3 Line and other developments nearby.

For the Stadium Shah Alam station, MBSA said Prasarana is required to provide pedestrian walkways linking Jalan Lontar Peluru 13/39 to Jalan Tukul Besi 13/41, as well as along Persiaran Sukan near MSU.

MBSA said the existing walkway from Jalan Tukul Besi 13/41 to the temporary car park was also required to be upgraded.

It added that while similar conditions had been imposed on nearby developments involving MSU Aset Sdn Bhd, PKNS, Fernline Corporation Sdn Bhd, Moripark Sdn Bhd and Lebaran Prospek Sdn Bhd.

On July 1, MBSA said it would build a 200-metre pedestrian walkway linking Stadium Shah Alam Station to the traffic lights at the Persiaran Sukan–Persiaran Akuatik junction within a month, as an immediate measure.

MBSA also said it was in the process of appointing a contractor to upgrade the pedestrian link between Persiaran Akuatik and Aeon Mall Shah Alam.
