The wire was believed to have become caught in the power supply system, causing the sound of a small explosion, said Rapid KL.
PETALING JAYA: A thin melted wire caused the sound of a minor explosion at the LRT station in Taman Jaya yesterday evening after getting caught in the train system’s power supply.
Rapid KL said the incident occurred around 7.18pm while an LRT coach headed for Putra Heights was at the station.
As a precautionary measure, the train was removed from service with passengers transferred to another coach to continue their journey.
“Checks found no damage on the train or to its components, while the tracks between the Universiti and Taman Jaya stations were found to be in order and safe for operations.
“Further checks were conducted after operating hours. Investigations found that a thin wire that was not part of the train or track components had melted at the scene.
“The wire is believed to have become caught in the power supply system, causing the sound of a small explosion,” it said in a statement.
No injuries were reported and the Kelana Jaya LRT service operated as usual after the incident, it added.
Rapid KL said further investigations would be held and preventive measures taken to prevent the incident from recurring.
