Midjourney Enters Preventive Healthcare With ‘Medical’ Rollout, Introducing AI-Powered Body Scanner

AI research laboratory Midjourney has unveiled Midjourney Medical, a new healthcare initiative centered on advanced body-scanning technology designed to make medical imaging faster, more accessible, and more integrated into everyday life. 

The company described the project as a long-term effort to reshape how individuals monitor their health through large-scale data collection and continuous body analysis.

At the core of the initiative is the Midjourney Scanner, a system that uses ultrasound technology to generate detailed three-dimensional images of the human body. According to the company, the process involves a person standing on a platform that slowly descends into a water-filled scanning chamber. During the scan, a ring containing hundreds of thousands of microscopic ultrasonic elements emits sound waves and records their reflections as they pass through different tissues and structures within the body.

Midjourney stated that the scanner is designed to complete a full-body scan in approximately 60 seconds. The collected information is then processed by large-scale computing infrastructure that reconstructs detailed internal images based on variations in tissue density and stiffness. The company claims the resulting images could provide MRI-like detail while significantly reducing scan times.

The project relies on a combination of specialized hardware, massive data processing capabilities, and proprietary imaging algorithms. Midjourney said the scanner generates terabytes of information every second, requiring extensive computational resources to transform raw wave data into usable medical images. The company believes recent advances in computing power and artificial intelligence have made such a system feasible.

From Medical Imaging Technology to Consumer Wellness Infrastructure

Beyond the imaging technology itself, Midjourney plans to incorporate the scanners into a new wellness-focused concept known as the Midjourney Spa. The first facility is scheduled to open in San Francisco in 2027 and is expected to include traditional spa amenities such as hot tubs, saunas, cold-plunge pools, and relaxation areas. Body scanning technology would be integrated into the experience, allowing visitors to undergo routine scans while building long-term health records over time.

The company argues that frequent and affordable imaging could enable earlier detection of physical changes and provide individuals, healthcare professionals, and AI-powered tools with a broader dataset for monitoring health trends. Midjourney envisions a future in which routine body scans become a common part of preventive healthcare and lifestyle management.

Over the next year, the laboratory plans to focus on refining both its hardware and software through research trials while preparing its first research-focused facility. Commercial operations are expected to begin in 2027, followed by expansion into additional cities and the introduction of more advanced scanner generations. The company stated that regulatory approval will remain a key milestone as it seeks to expand the medical capabilities of the platform.

Midjourney’s long-term objective is to deploy more than 50,000 scanners globally by 2031, creating capacity for up to one billion scans per month. The laboratory believes widespread access to early imaging could significantly improve preventive healthcare outcomes and reduce long-term healthcare costs.

The initiative represents a major expansion beyond Midjourney’s established work in AI. The company emphasized that it remains independently funded through its community and intends to continue developing healthcare technologies alongside other research projects currently in development.
