PKR to contest at least 20 seats in Johor, 16 in NS

PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh said a high voter turnout could work in PH’s favour in Johor.

KUANTAN: PKR will contest at least 20 seats in the upcoming Johor state election and is expected to field candidates in 16 constituencies in the Negeri Sembilan polls, party secretary-general Fuziah Salleh said today.

Fuziah said seat allocations for both state elections have been finalised.

“I understand that PKR will contest 16 seats in Negeri Sembilan and a minimum of 20 seats in Johor,” she told a press conference after attending the Rahmah Madani Sales programme held in conjunction with the opening of a new Pantai Selamat supermarket branch here today.

Pakatan Harapan previously announced that it would contest all 56 seats in Johor, with DAP confirming it would field candidates in 17 constituencies.

For Negeri Sembilan, media reports have said that PH will contest all 36 state seats, with PKR allocated 16 seats, DAP 11 and Amanah nine.

The Johor state election will be held on July 11, and the Negeri Sembilan polls on Aug 1.

Fuziah said a high voter turnout could work in PH’s favour in Johor.

On the emergence of new political parties, she expressed hope that all parties would embrace healthy campaigning by focusing on policies and proposals that benefit the people.

“Bring forward the good that you can offer, not criticism of other parties. What matters is what you can offer. That is how we should celebrate democracy. May the best party win,” she said.

Separately, Fuziah, who is the deputy domestic trade and cost of living minister, said she would propose to the finance ministry that the fuel quota under the BUDI95 programme for media practitioners be increased.
