A husband and wife in Boston who allegedly hurled racial slurs and death threats, attacking a group of people dining at a restaurant, including a child, were facing civil rights violations, according to a NBC10 Boston report on Wednesday.

Arielle Raso, 37, and Gregory Raso, 39, who live next door to Tertulia's Cafe on Porter Street in East Boston, called police to make a noise complaint around 6:45 p.m. on Monday, NBC10 reported. Officers responded to the location and told the couple they could contact police if the noise continued after 11 p.m.

Police later received a call of a reported assault and returned to the cafe at 8:30 p.m. A victim told authorities that she and several other Latino customers were eating when the couple complained about the noise and confronted the group.

The Rasos allegedly told the victims to "get out of this country" and used racial slurs, then threatened to kill them, according to NBC10.

"The victim said the Rasos broke off a piece of wood fencing and threw it at the group, hitting a child. They also sprayed the group with a hose," NBC10 reported.

Arielle Raso was charged Tuesday with seven counts of assault and battery, seven counts of civil rights violation, seven counts of threatening to commit a crime and one count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on a child under 14.

Gregory Raso, her husband, was charged with seven counts of assault and battery, seven counts of civil rights violation and one count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

District Attorney Kevin Hayden said that an officer heard "Arielle Raso admit to spraying the group with a hose and making threats."

"The assaults on this group were terrible alone, but the injection of such vile racial rhetoric makes this incident even more appalling. Our office will not—and our society must not—allow such actions to go unnoticed and unpunished," Hayden said in a news release.
