Pi Network just addressed one of its most persistent community frustrations head-on. The Pi Core Team has published an official explanation of why millions of Pioneers remain in “Tentative KYC” status. This also explains what the team is actually doing about the issue. The announcement arrives alongside updated network data showing 18.1 million fully KYC’d users and 16.7 million mainnet migrations. The v23 node upgrade deadline has been extended to May 19. For Pi Network migration problems that have tested community patience for years, this is the most direct official response yet.

Tentative Does Not Mean Rejected

The Core Team was explicit on the most misunderstood point. A tentative KYC status does not mean the system rejected an application. Instead, the network requires additional verification before it grants final approval. The distinction matters enormously for the hundreds of thousands of Pioneers who have been waiting without clarity on their standing.

The reason the system flags accounts as tentative is deliberate. Pi’s KYC process is intentionally conservative. The Core Team explained the logic directly. If the network approves applications without sufficient verification, duplicate accounts could migrate to the mainnet. These accounts would distort rewards and compromise the entire one-person-one-account structure that makes the Pi ecosystem valuable. The tighter the checks, the more trustworthy the network. That is the tradeoff Pi has chosen and it is the right one for long-term ecosystem health.

What Has Actually Changed

The Core Team announced large-scale system improvements that are already producing results. Using advanced AI models combined with liveness checks and application data. The upgraded system has converted millions of tentative cases into eligible status, fully verified millions of additional users, and cut the queue of KYC applications waiting for human validator review by 50%.

The standard KYC process has also been updated to integrate more AI into processing. Additionally, the same underlying technology powers Fast Track verification. That upgrade reduces validator bottlenecks and developers expect it to meaningfully shorten standard KYC processing times going forward.

For Pioneers currently stuck in tentative status, the official guidance is clear. Complete any available liveness checks in the Pi app, ensure all submitted information is accurate, and continue actively mining. This may trigger system process checks.

V23 Deadline Extended to May 19

On the technical side, the v23 node upgrade deadline has been pushed back from May 15 to May 19. The Core Team cited a complete database migration and upgrade as the reason for the extension.

The team has also slightly adjusted the v24 through v26 iteration schedule as a result. This extension represents a minor delay in a much larger roadmap. A major ecosystem event follows the completion of these foundational upgrades.

What This Means for Investors and Developers

For Pi Network price 2026 observers, the KYC announcement matters beyond community relations. In fact, a verified, one-person-per-account network of 18.1 million users provides the essential foundation that commerce, payments, and financial service applications will be built upon. Consequently, every tentative case resolved strengthens that fundamental structure.

For developers building on Pi Network, the AI-upgraded KYC infrastructure signals a network serious about authenticated user bases. Indeed, this represents the exact resource that distinguishes Pi from every other blockchain ecosystem competing for developer attention in the AI era. While the ship is being built carefully, the delay in sailing remains the price of building it right.
