Ethereum Foundation advances Glamsterdam devnets and names Will Corcoran, Kev Wedderburn and Fredrik as Protocol Cluster leads.

The Ethereum Foundation said its Protocol Cluster made progress on Glamsterdam testing during a May 2026 interop in Svalbard, Norway.

The update also named new Protocol Cluster leads as leadership changes begin across the Ethereum protocol team.

Glamsterdam Testing Moves Forward

The Ethereum Foundation reported progress on the Glamsterdam upgrade after a week-long interop in Svalbard. The event brought together Ethereum core developers from several client teams.

Developers used the event to test upgrade components and prepare client software. The work focused on hardening Glamsterdam before the next stages of development.

The Foundation said Glamsterdam devnets are now live. Multi-client testing also moved forward, including work linked to ePBS and external builders.

The update said the external builders pipeline was tested across nearly all clients. This marked a key step for Glamsterdam testing and Ethereum upgrade planning.

Developers Set Gas Limit Target

The Protocol Cluster also confirmed a 200 million gas limit floor as a post-Glamsterdam target. The Foundation linked this target to ePBS, BAL optimizations, and EIP-8037 repricing.

The update said EIP-8037 was finalized during the interop. Developers adopted a fixed cost per state byte and delivered repricing numbers on bal-devnet-6.

The Ethereum Foundation also said ePBS had stabilized in testing. A multi-client Glamsterdam devnet is now running, and further testing will continue.

Work also started for Hegotá, the upgrade expected after Glamsterdam. Functional FOCIL prototypes were prepared, and native account abstraction needs were scoped.

New Protocol Cluster Leads Named

The Ethereum Foundation also announced changes to Protocol Cluster leadership. Barnabé Monnot and Tim Beiko are leaving the Ethereum Foundation.

Alex Stokes will take a sabbatical, according to the update. Will Corcoran, Kev Wedderburn, and Fredrik will become the new Protocol Cluster leads.

The Foundation said the transition started during the Svalbard interop. Incoming and outgoing leaders held strategy meetings while Glamsterdam work continued.

Will Corcoran serves as a Research Coordinator in Protocol. His work includes zkVM proving, post-quantum consensus, and the Fast Confirmation Rule.

Kev Wedderburn leads the zkEVM team. He brings experience across Ethereum research and engineering work.

Fredrik leads Protocol Security and the Trillion Dollar Security project. He has also worked across several Ethereum cluster efforts.

The Foundation said the near-term focus remains Glamsterdam delivery. The team will also continue Hegotá preparation and work on the Strawmap.

FOCIL is scheduled as a headliner on the consensus layer side for Hegotá. Further Protocol Cluster updates are expected from the new leads.
