Microsoft (MSFT) Stock: Company Plans $15 Billion UAE Investment Through 2029

TLDR

  • Microsoft will invest over $15 billion in the UAE through the end of 2029
  • The investment primarily focuses on expanding AI data centers across the country
  • Microsoft secured export licenses from the Trump administration to ship advanced chips to the Gulf nation
  • The company obtained export licenses last year and secured new ones for this year
  • The UAE is spending billions to become a global AI hub and leveraging its Washington relations for tech access

Microsoft announced Monday it will invest more than $15 billion in the United Arab Emirates over the next seven years. The investment timeline extends through the end of 2029.

The tech giant secured export licenses from the Trump administration to ship advanced chips to the Gulf nation. This approval clears the way for the company’s expansion plans in the region.

Microsoft Vice Chair and President Brad Smith spoke with Reuters about the investment. He was attending the ADIPEC energy conference in Abu Dhabi when he made the announcement.

Smith said the majority of the investment will go toward AI data centers. These facilities will be built across the UAE.

The company obtained its first round of export licenses from the U.S. government last year. Microsoft secured additional licenses for this year as well.

Export Licenses Enable Expansion

The export licenses allow Microsoft to ship some of the world’s most advanced chips to the UAE. These chips are essential for building and operating AI data centers.

The Trump administration’s approval represents a key milestone for the project. Without these licenses, Microsoft would not be able to proceed with its full investment plan.

The UAE has been investing billions of dollars to become a global AI hub. The country is using its strong relationship with Washington to gain access to U.S. technology.

AI Infrastructure Development

Microsoft’s planned data centers will support the growing demand for AI services in the region. The facilities will house the advanced computing infrastructure needed for AI operations.

The investment represents one of Microsoft’s largest foreign commitments. The seven-year timeline shows the company’s long-term commitment to the UAE market.

Smith’s comments at the ADIPEC conference provided the first public details of the investment size. The conference focuses on energy and technology topics.

The UAE’s push to become an AI hub has attracted interest from multiple tech companies. Microsoft’s commitment represents a vote of confidence in the country’s technology ambitions.

The data center expansion will require ongoing shipments of advanced chips. This is why the export licenses cover multiple years.

Microsoft received the licenses from the U.S. government under the current Trump administration. The company secured approvals for both past and current year shipments.

The post Franklin Templeton CEO Dismisses 50bps Rate Cut Ahead FOMC appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. Franklin Templeton CEO Jenny Johnson has weighed in on whether the Federal Reserve should make a 25 basis points (bps) Fed rate cut or 50 bps cut. This comes ahead of the Fed decision today at today’s FOMC meeting, with the market pricing in a 25 bps cut. Bitcoin and the broader crypto market are currently trading flat ahead of the rate cut decision. Franklin Templeton CEO Weighs In On Potential FOMC Decision In a CNBC interview, Jenny Johnson said that she expects the Fed to make a 25 bps cut today instead of a 50 bps cut. She acknowledged the jobs data, which suggested that the labor market is weakening. However, she noted that this data is backward-looking, indicating that it doesn’t show the current state of the economy. She alluded to the wage growth, which she remarked is an indication of a robust labor market. She added that retail sales are up and that consumers are still spending, despite inflation being sticky at 3%, which makes a case for why the FOMC should opt against a 50-basis-point Fed rate cut. In line with this, the Franklin Templeton CEO said that she would go with a 25 bps rate cut if she were Jerome Powell. She remarked that the Fed still has the October and December FOMC meetings to make further cuts if the incoming data warrants it. Johnson also asserted that the data show a robust economy. However, she noted that there can’t be an argument for no Fed rate cut since Powell already signaled at Jackson Hole that they were likely to lower interest rates at this meeting due to concerns over a weakening labor market. Notably, her comment comes as experts argue for both sides on why the Fed should make a 25 bps cut or…
