Saturday marks the 121st edition of the Red River Rivalry, the annual college football showdown between the Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners.
Texas leads the all-time series with a 64-51-5 record, though Oklahoma has won seven of the last 10 games. In the most recent matchup on Oct. 12, 2024, then No. 4 ranked Texas beat Oklahoma 34-3 in the first Red River Rivalry game as members of the Southeastern Conference.
Kickoff for the game is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC. Play by play caller Chris Fowler will be joined by veteran college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit and sideline reporter Holly Rowe at the Cotton Bowl Stadium, which is part of the State Fair of Texas. The No. 6-ranked Sooners are 1.5-point favorites, according to DraftKings Sportsbook betting odds.
Oklahoma is 5-0 thus far during the 2025 regular season following wins against two top-25 ranked teams in Michigan and Auburn. Sooners quarterback John Mateer, who had surgery on his throwing hand nearly three weeks ago, has been upgraded to probable status on the SEC availability report ahead of the Red River Rivalry. Mateer, who’s completed about 65% of his passes on the year, is currently the fourth favorite (+950) to win the Heisman Trophy in December, per DraftKings.
On the other hand, Texas — which had a No. 1 ranking in the preseason and may be one of the country’s most disappointing programs so far in 2025 — has a 3-2 record. A week ago, the Longhorns suffered a 29-21 loss at Florida knock them out of the top-25 rankings, while in Week 1, Ohio State beat Texas 14-7 in the much-anticipated season-opener for quarterback Arch Manning.
At one time the Heisman Trophy favorite, Manning has completed 81 of 135 passes (60%) this season for 1,151 yards, which puts him at No. 10 in the conference. He’s thrown 11 touchdowns and five interceptions. The New Orleans native, who some are already referring to as a flop despite only starting seven games for the Longhorns in his three-year college career, is currently at +7500 to win the Heisman heading into the Red River Rivalry in Dallas.
