LOS BAÑOS, Philippines – The University of the Philippines Los Baños, through its Civil Engineering Executive Organization (CEO), will host the national Engineering Congress 2026 this coming February, a premier two-day event uniting the country’s brightest minds to confront the pressing demands of climate adaptation and disaster resilience.

Scheduled for February 28 and March 1, 2026, the Congress will feature two cornerstone events: the Engineering Seminar and Career Expo and the 21st Executives’ Challenge (Executives’ Challenge XXI). This year’s initiative, aiming to create a platform for expert discourse and career development, is framed by the critical theme: “Built to Withstand: Advancing Sustainable and Climate-Adaptive Engineering Solutions for a Disaster-Ready Nation.”

Marking its third consecutive in-person iteration, the Engineering Seminar and Career Expo will be held on February 28, 2026, at the Charles Fuller Baker Memorial Hall. The seminar builds on a robust tradition of technical discourse, gathering distinguished industry experts and academics to explore a spectrum of topics vital to national development. Key discussions will center on structural retrofitting, sustainable urban planning, water resources management, and safety engineering—all aimed at fortifying communities and enhancing systemic reliability.

Running parallel to the seminar, the Career Expo offers a direct conduit between future engineers and leading firms. It serves as a vital bridge for exploring career pathways dedicated to environmental stewardship and pioneering engineering solutions that strengthen national infrastructure.

On March 1, 2026, the focus shifts to intellectual rigor at the Electrical Engineering Auditorium with Executives’ Challenge XXI. Now in its 21st year, this premier national intercollegiate quiz competition is a celebrated test of core engineering science principles, integrity, and collaborative problem-solving. It is designed to foster academic growth, critical thinking, and a profound passion for the field among the next generation of engineers.

More than 30 teams from across the country are anticipated to compete for the prestigious title of Grand Champion. The winning team will receive a ₱75,000 cash prize and the official Engineering Congress revolving trophy. Significant prizes of ₱25,000 and ₱15,000 are allocated for the first and second runners-up, respectively.

The Engineering Congress 2026 transcends your typical academic gathering, representing a crucial venue where theoretical knowledge, professional ambition, and competitive spirit converge to address the imperative of building a disaster-ready Philippines.

American Manufacturing Has A Private Equity Problem

American Manufacturing Has A Private Equity Problem

The post American Manufacturing Has A Private Equity Problem appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. Private equity would seem to be a natural fit for SME manufacturers’ increasing needs for growth and buyout capital. But there’s a problem. getty Baby Boom owners of small- and medium-sized enterprise manufacturing companies, which comprise about 98% of American industry, are reaching retirement age in droves, with Generation X not far behind. Those without relatives or partners to take over the businesses need to find buyers so they can exit. Private equity investors would seem to be the natural answer. Unfortunately, there exists a critical distrust of PE among industrial owners. Matt Guse is president of MRS Machining in Augusta, Wisconsin, a family-owned machine shop established by his dad in 1986. Author of the new book MRS Machining: A Manufacturing Story, Guse published an article on LinkedIn last week giving one reason for that great level of distrust among owners looking to sell. There’s a gap right now in manufacturing that mostly gets swept under the rug—a real disconnect between buyers and sellers that goes way deeper than price. Almost every week, I hear from private equity firms or buyers circling manufacturing businesses, coming in with their own playbooks. But let’s be honest: most buyers still approach business owners like they’re handing them a favor, tossing out the same tired 2x–4x multiples, assuming owners are desperate to cash out. That attitude misses the point entirely. Manufacturing business owners aren’t just selling off machines and real estate. They’re putting decades of hard work, community, and identity on the line. These are their legacies, not just another transaction to check off a spreadsheet. Treating these deals as cold, purely financial moves ignores everything that actually makes these businesses valuable in the first place. There’s a much deeper level of distrust that dates back about as long as MRS Machining has been…
