MANILA, Philippines – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has appointed former Taguig mayor Lino Cayetano as the new PTV-4 general manager.
Cayetano is the second defeated 2025 elections candidate to be appointed by Marcos, following the lapse in the appointment ban on losing candidates on May 13. The first was Labor Secretary Francis Tolentino, who ran under Marcos’ Senate slate last year.
Cayetano ran in the 2025 Taguig 1st District congressional race but lost to the candidate supported by his sister-in-law, Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano, the wife of Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano.
“Mayor Cayetano brings with him a rare wealth of experience from the media, the private and the public sector that would certainly take PTV 4 to greater heights in our ever-evolving multi-media landscape,” Presidential Communications Office chief Dave Gomez said in a statement on Wednesday June 3, announcing Cayetano’s appointment.
The PCO supervises and has direct control over PTV-4.
Cayetano, a known television director before he ventured into politics, obtained his Mass Communication degree from the University of the Philippines and has a Diploma in Film from the New York Film Academy.
He is the co-founder of Rein Entertainment, where he is also a producer and director.
Cayetano served as Taguig 2nd District congressman from 2013 to 2016, and Taguig mayor from 2019 to 2022.
Marcos earlier said that he may appoint more defeated 2025 elections candidates in the coming days to governments posts, not necessarily Cabinet positions. – Rappler.com
