Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) said he will break a pledge to retire from the Senate in 2028 by running for office again.

Scott made the announcement in a Wednesday interview with The Post and Courier.

"And I'll say without any question that as I think about my own reelection in 2028, I think about all the lessons I've learned on the campaign trail for all these other candidates, and frankly, even in South Carolina," Scott said. "The more I travel the state, the more I travel the country, the more I realize the important role that we play in the majority."

In 2014, Scott promised to impose a term limit on himself.

"I plan to run for reelection, but that will be my last one, if I run," the senator reconfirmed in 2019.

On Monday, Scott was asked if he had misspoke about having no plans for the office after 2022.

“Oh no, no. I meant 2028," the senator insisted.

The Post and Courier pressed Scott on whether he intended to run again.

"Yes ma'am," he confirmed.
