Dune's new MCP Server lets AI agents query blockchain data across 100+ chains using natural language, eliminating manual SQL work for traders and analysts.

Dune Launches MCP Server Giving AI Agents Access to 100+ Blockchain Datasets

Dune Analytics has released its MCP Server, a tool that connects AI agents directly to the platform's data warehouse spanning more than 100 indexed blockchains. The integration lets users query everything from stablecoin flows to DEX volumes through natural language prompts rather than writing SQL manually.

The server works with Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Codex, and OpenCode—essentially any client compatible with Anthropic's Model Context Protocol standard that launched in late 2024.

From Prompt to Chart Without the SQL

Here's what actually happens under the hood: You ask something like "Show me stablecoin transfers over $1M across Ethereum and Base in the last 24 hours." The AI agent searches Dune's catalog for relevant tables, writes the DuneSQL query, executes it through the MCP endpoint, and returns visualized results. One conversation handles what previously required switching between tools.

The server exposes 12 tools through a single endpoint. These handle table discovery, query execution, result retrieval, and chart generation. Users don't need SQL knowledge—the agent handles translation from plain English.

What's Actually Queryable

Coverage includes raw transaction data and decoded smart contract events across major chains: Ethereum, Solana, Base, Arbitrum, Optimism, Polygon, BNB Chain, Avalanche, NEAR, zkSync, TON, TRON, Sui, Aptos, and dozens more L1s and L2s. Community-curated datasets covering protocol analytics, wallet intelligence, DeFi positions, and NFT activity are also accessible.

Practical prompts the company suggests: "Top 10 wallets accumulating RWA tokens in the last 30 days" or "Compare Uniswap vs. Curve daily swap volume over the past 90 days." The kind of research that typically requires a dedicated analyst can now happen conversationally.

Setup and Costs

Integration requires a single command line entry. For Claude: claude mcp add --scope user --transport http dune https://api.dune.com/mcp/v1 --header "x-dune-api-key: YOUR_API_KEY"

The MCP server itself doesn't carry separate fees—it draws from existing Dune API credits. Query execution consumes credits based on Dune's standard pricing tiers, with a built-in getUsage tool for monitoring consumption.

Why This Matters for Traders

The timing coincides with growing institutional interest in AI-assisted blockchain analysis. According to related developments reported March 2, AI agents are increasingly leveraging tools like Dune's metrics for automated market intelligence. This server essentially democratizes access to the same data infrastructure that powers professional trading desks.

For anyone doing regular on-chain research—tracking whale movements, monitoring protocol health, or analyzing market share shifts—the friction reduction is significant. Whether it justifies restructuring existing workflows depends on how much time you're currently burning on manual queries.
